OK, these may seem rather inane but they're driving me to distraction

Am setting up second seat option for 13 week old DD and want to know...

  1. do your top straps on your buggy look more like the bottom ones in picture 10 of the instructions, i.e. not very long?

  2. how do you fold the head board between the fabric layers?

  3. does it look like the top rider is going to sink into the main seat and have his/her legs sticking out at a 45 degree angle?

  4. what is the loop for under the second seat?

  5. can you recline the main seat when sibling is in the second seat?

TIA

3 1/2 months and here

can't bring myself to order yet another E3 accessory, but if you're getting one can you get me one and we'll split the freight costs

Marita · 01/07/2004 02:11

The cup holder is the cheapest guilt-free accessory you can buy. I bought it in the states from Rodney at Kiwi Kid for 10 dollars. I figured out the cup clip thingie by accident. Wish there were more detailed directions about the stroller.

I have a 2 yr old and a 5 mos old. We started to put the 5 mos old in the seat around 4 mos, as he is a big boy and I got tired of jamming his feet when I would put him in. Too bad the side of the baby bed doesn't zip down so you can put the baby in easier.

I have a q for you ladies: How do you keep the seat from flipping forward on the e3 v1? Do they have a retrofit to keep the seat from flopping forward every time your toddler leans forward? Grr

Bagpuss30 · 01/07/2004 03:33

OK now I have to have one . You lot are a bad influence .

Double/Twin buggy

Can anyone recommend a double/twin buggy. We looked at the maclaren rally twin but the seats are very small and we have two 10 month olds to seat and it feels too small already. Don't want to spend a fortune as its a second pram.

Thanks

Hi

I'm new to this site and have a quick question for E3 V2 owners as I'm looking to purchase one.

Is it worth getting the new born cocoon? How long would you use it for? I'm looking at an alternative to the cocoon for my new baby (due Sept 04) - like a fleecy sleeping bag thingy which will do right up until toddlerhood.

Also has anyone used Mako in Australia to purchase their E3 - they ship to UK and seem quite reasonable.

Many thanks!

Joanne69 · 06/08/2004 17:03

Hi,

I have the cocoon but wouldnt recommend one for the following reasons.

Firstly my daughter was large 9lb10oz at birth, so didnt have a lot of room to move around, spread her arms etc.

Secondly, I had to fight her every time I tried to put her in, she used to stick her legs in the air and its impossible to try to get a baby in that isnt totally flat.

Thirdly, by 3 months she liked sitting up and watching the world go by, I know its no recommended that they sit up at 3 months but try telling that to my daughter.

Its not going to be really cold when you have your baby, so I wouldnt bother, get a sleeping bag and I think you will get a lot more wear out of it.

Pam70 · 07/08/2004 12:03

Thanks Joanne69 - will just stick to the sleeping bag thing!

cheers

OK so I have one question as a prospective E3 buyer ... if you only have one older child in it and want them to lie down to go to sleep, it looks like they would end up with their body in the flat bed bit that you use for your newborn and then their legs have to go up and over the footrest. I can't see any other way for it to work.

So my question is ... have I understood this right, and if so, can your children sleep like this?

Thx!

Bagpuss30 · 09/08/2004 12:47

wishingchair, when you use the main seat for a toddler there is a reclining option so that the child reclines enough to sleep. The newborn mode is only used for babies 0-6 months I think. If you go to P&T's website then you will see the seat in all three positions and have a better idea of what I am talking about. HTH

wishingchair · 09/08/2004 14:02

Ah OK thanks Bagpuss - that makes sense. I accosted a woman having a quiet cup of coffee because she had an E3 and I quizzed her on it (e.g. do you kick your new baby in the head when walking and so on) but she couldn't quite understand my concern about the sleeping - probably because her baby was about 4 months old and could still fit in the flat bit.

Am going to buy my E3 in the US next month as it works out so cheap there - trying for a baby now so only going to buy the single version for superstition reasons - but I will need dd (18 months) to be able to sleep in it so mind has been put at rest!

Thx again

Another quick question for E3 owners before I purchase - are the pannier bags worth it or do they just get in the way if you're moving around shop aisles? Or should I just stick to existing nappy changing bag?

Thanks again!

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 10/08/2004 14:06

Our panniers are great because DS in the back seat is so long, his feet would get in the way of getting things in and out of the parcel tray. One is full of two sets of nappy changing kit and the other has the storm cover and UV cover in it. As the E3 is dead narrow anyway, while adding a bit to the width, it doesn't mean you attain battleship proportions. You could always just use one at a time. It also means we're pretty much self-contained - I don't need a backpack with nappy stuff when we go out. Only problem is they only come in grey these days I'm told - ours were the last pair of navy in the shop. HTH

Pam70 · 10/08/2004 19:57

Thanks Bear - will get the panniers then (hadn't quite thought about storage of storm covers etc)

Hi

I have a Mountain Buggy Urban which I LOVE but I am considering purchasing an E3 with doubles kit for D?#2 - my age gap will be just short of 27 months. I have found all the threads on here very useful.

I do have some questions though and would be grateful if you could help me out:

(1) in newborn mode, is the newborn strapped in with a 5 point harness?
(2) if you purchase the double raincover and suncover can you use them in single mode as well when you only have one child in the pram?
(3) I am slightly concerned by the lack of canopy for the rear seat - do you use the suncover? Do your kids mind? Can they see out? It looks like it is quite loose and not very fitted - comments would be appreciated.
(4) In newborn mode, how do you get baby in and out? Do you have to take toddler out first?
(5) Am i right in thinking that the cocoon is an optional extra and probably unwanted for a summer baby?

Thanks so much in advance for your help

Regards

Rae

Hi Rae -

  1. There is a harness but I don't think it suits the position of baby in newborn mode..the 'hammock' for the baby is very secure with a raised edge at the opening and fabric sides so i tucked my dd in on a pram mattress with a fleece blanket over her and she seemed as safe as when we used our big pram. 2)Can use double storm cover on single byggy - just get a little extra cover at the back. 3)The lack of a canopy for the doubles seat is a little problem for us - although most of the time the seat is at least partially shaded by the main seat. When dd was very small I put her back into the newborn mode for the very sunny days we had, as then she was shaded entirely..now I make sure she wears a hat at least. We don't have the sunshade (thought I wouldn't need it in this country!) 4)I could pick the baby out of the newborn seat quite easily without removing the toddler/top seat...probably even easier if you use the cocoon which seems to be 'baby in a bag'..just lift by the handles.
  2. Yes, cocoon is optional extra, and I didn't use one in the summer for my baby..as mentioned before I lined the base of the newborn seat with a pram mattress (Mamas and Papas about £10 ) and put the baby on that. Cocoon looks very snug but a little small.

Hope this helps...best thing is to spend as much time as you can with a demo model and play with the different settings..or even better try to see one with children in!

Hi, got my E3 couple of weeks ago but only just got round to setting up. Fine in single mode but I have no instructions and new baby on the way, can anyone help with how to set up for new born?

bluebear · 04/09/2004 19:25

GeogTeach - is it a version 1 or version 2 (with a version 1 the second seat zips on, with a version 2 the second seat is continually on it's frame and simply clips on).
I bought a v2 but was given instructions for a v1 so they were v. difficult to follow.

If you tell me which version it is I'll try to describe what to do! HTH.

bluebear · 04/09/2004 19:26

Mine says E3 v2 on the frame.

geogteach · 06/09/2004 11:21

V2 - thanks

bluebear · 07/09/2004 20:50

V2 instructions (fingers crossed)

Assuming you have the buggy set-up as a single.

Unzip the side zips of the main seat.
Unclip the 2 big (obvious) clips behind the seat.
Unclip the 2 little (crafty) clips at the top of the seat.
Push the seat from the front so that it becomes flat and has a raised edge.

That is now your newborn's bed!

Find the funny black hinges that came with your doubles kit.
Remove the bumper bar -if fitted.
Put one hinge into each of the sockets that held the bumper bar.
Get your doubles seat and simply slide it onto the hinges and listen for the click to know that it's on safely.

DONE!

(well, I hope so! If you get in a muddle tell me and I'll try again
