Breast pumps??

I am after a breast pump. I don't want to spend too much, as it's just for expressing to mix with stuff to start weaning. It doesn't have to be all-singing, all-dancing, but do the job fairly well. What would you recommend?

Or even better, anyone selling one cheap??

Hello

I've got an Avent Breast pump. Where are you?

BahHunkBug · 09/12/2006 21:37

I'd suggest you hand express if you don't want large quantities. Mears has posted excellent links in the past - have a search of the archives for a fab how-to page.

Much easier than faffing about with a pump.

Hi santa, I'm near wigan.

I'm going to try and search the archives, see what I can find out.

i recommend the avent pump as well. I did have a medela electric one, but it packed up and i had to send it back, it was very noisy.
Personally i found hand exprssing difficult and painful , but maybe i wasn't doing it right.

I too started with a medela pump and just found it horribly noisy and not that efficient. I then got an Avent Isis and can't sing its praises enough. It made expressing so easy, and was a lot less fiddly than the medela and much easier to clean and sterilise. I would say save your money and buy an avent one.

TKmaxx have breast pumps cheap at the moment.

another thumbs up for avent isis and thumbs down for medela electric

dueat44 · 11/12/2006 09:28

Avent Isis, yes yes yes

NappiesGalooooooooooooria · 13/12/2006 00:28

hmph.

liked the medela. noisy but did the job. but this was on 3rd baby, so my norks were prob 'easier' by then...

hated avent isis, and hand expressing, was utterly useless at both. but then, i tried both on 1st baby, so norks were not playing ball...

on 2nd baby i had a great big but quiet and smooth thing hired for v reasonable rate from local NCT lady... liked that best of all... worth a try i think.

The Mother of All Breast Pumps according to chipmonkey is the Avent Isis IQ duo but it is very pricey. On Mumsnet expressing threads the Ameda lactaline gets great reviews. I couldn't hand express without bruises but I expect I wasn't doing it properly. Mears knows all about it.

mamama · 13/12/2006 01:18

I'd also recommend an Avent pump. Medela are expensive and the one I used was painful, noisy and inefficient. My Avent Isis manual pump was far better in every way. HTH

jabberwocky · 13/12/2006 04:01

I use the Ameda Purely Yours and have been very pleased.
