If you are quite SHORT, what car do you drive?

I'm about five feet and I have trouble reaching the gear stick AND the pedals in some cars.

I just want a little runaround lady-car....

Do any Short Ladies have recommendations?

5'2 here and a VW Touran.

It's a big car but it has v good height adjustable front seats!

ChippyMinton · 19/11/2015 23:13

Citroen C3 automatic or a Polo automatic?

wonkylegs · 19/11/2015 23:14

I'm 4'11 (with very short legs) and love my Toyota Yaris but I can also drive our Audi A4 fine too (just it's got a very hard ride which I don't like as much)
The key is seat adjustment both go up and down as well as in the yaris tilting forward.
Both cars work for shorty me and long legged DH whose 6ft. We just sit at opposite ends of the seating adjustment.

I'm 5 foot 1 and there is nothing I can't drive with the seat full forward.

I have horses, so have driven landies, range rovers, long wheel base Pajero, Mercedes ml, vw toureg. I reject the concept of a 'little ladies' car.

WheresMyBurrito · 19/11/2015 23:26

VW Polo. It's the only car I've ever had.

My friend had issues when she was trying to get a new car because a lot of cars now have the airbag positioned in a way that your knees can knock against it if you have the seat far forward/higher up. She went for some kind of Audi in the end (a little one, not a twat one).

I'm 5ft. I have owned and been fine driving:
Peugeot 206, 307
Renault Clio
Vw polo and golf
Ford Focus

The golf is by far the most comfortable

I am 5"2 have recently swapped my Passat for a Punto, all my colleauges joke (they move my car around at work) that I have the weirdest driving style. Seat back and laid back. Both cars were fine also for my oh who is 6"4

MountainDweller · 19/11/2015 23:38

I'm 5 foot 3 and I love my Renault Twingo automatic. It's an old one though. The seat is higher and more upright than in many small cars, which really works for me. My first car was a Ford Ka which I also liked - again old style so don't know what the newer ones are like.

Cirsium · 19/11/2015 23:47

I'm 4'11" (and a half). Have driven:

Vauxhall Corsa - no problem
Ford Focus - no problem
Toyota Corolla - no problem until 7 months pregnant, purchased pedal extenders which DH's nephew fitted (he has since become a bit grumpy or I would ask him to fit them to current car). Brilliant.
Ford Ka - oddly I found this a bit awkward.
Honda Accord - ok, but having used pedal extenders now feel very close to steering wheel and aware of dangers of airbag for shorter drivers.
Volkswagon Polo - no problem

I do use a cushion behind my lower back as I find the main issue to be seat being too deep and and back of calves pressing against it. My mum is 4'6" and drives a Toyota RAV4 using a wedge cushion under and behind her.

Im 5ft1 and drive a huge vw t4 camper van...most people find it hilarious...

I did have a vw polo which was great

CocktailQueen · 19/11/2015 23:49

I'm 5 foot 3 and have a Kia Carens. Also drive a VW Bora, Pasaat estate, Ford Focus estate, Ford Mondeo estate...

No problems! Most seats can be raised and moved forwards - but then you risk being too close to the air bag on the steering wheel...

Cirsium · 19/11/2015 23:51

Pedal extenders. Can be a bit trickier to install than this suggests, but quite doable and brings you further back from the steering wheel which is much safer.

I'm about your height and have driven loads of different things, including a jumbo Transit without a problem! I've found some smaller cars are worse, because you don't have as much space to adjust the seat.

HeadDreamer · 25/11/2015 14:57

5"3 and drives a Jazz. I find it harder to reach the clutch and so have been driving an automatic for a long time.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 25/11/2015 15:03

I'm 4'11'' and drive a Honda FRV, but have had no trouble with a Honda Civic (both of these have gearsticks mounted on the lower dashboard instead of the floor which I find great, so you could look at Hondas if you struggle to reach the gear stick) but also drove a Ford Focus, Vauxhall Corsa and an old Fiesta for quite a long time. More recent cars have had adjustable height drivers seats which help if you're a shorty! Grin

Me either - have they changed the design of new cars? I've never had a trouble reaching the pedals!
