OK, we've got a new puppy (very cute, kids love him etc etc) but, the mess on the floor is unbelievable .
I am currently using a wet mop and flash to keep it clean, but I know that in time the laminate will swell with the water and warp costing far too much to replace! I know this as our dishwasher leaked overnight one night and we had to have it all replaced about 4 months ago .
What do you use to keep yours clean please? I always seem to miss out on the new fangled stuff that you can buy nowadays.....can anybody enlighten me at all?!!
Thanks

Sounds like you need a microfibre mop - I have that exact one, and it's great. You can wring the cloths/mop heads our until they're practically dry, and use without chemicals, if you like (although I guess you might need to use something to disinfect).

And a thread on mops, too. HTH.

Do you mean the mess due to poo and wee accidents?

We have real wood (oak) everywhere except for in the kitchen and utility room where we have karndean (a sort of posh modern lino!). My puppy - when not house trained, was not allowed anywhere in the house except for the kitchen - where accidents could be properly washed away and disinfected.

Do you have laminate in your kitchen too?

What about those Flash floor wipes? We used those in our old house on the kitchen laminate and they seemd fine.

When my dogs were at the young puppy stage I kept the floor covered with newspaper the whole time. Looks horrible, but saves a lot of mopping. I started off covering the whole kitchen, then gradually reduced the amount of paper each day as they got the idea that pooing and weeing should only be done on paper.

Oh no....not poo and wee at all - he's 12 weeks and well into housetraining, so we don't have too many mistakes really . It's just the pawprints I suppose - he's straight through the french doors from the garden and however quick I am to grab him the laminate flooring just gets covered in dirt! Thanks for the flash wipe idea - and I've already got a microfibre mop thingy from Lakeland - bit useless tbh I thought . Just wondered what you all used on your floors really for everyday gruft and grime .

I have been cleaning ours with Flash and a wet mop for the last 5 years i didn't realise it could warp.

poppyseed · 03/12/2006 22:38

Ours wasn't one of those waterproof ones you see.......the water eventually can get between the joints and the board swells as it absorbs the moisture. The joints then protrude as it warps and eventually the laminate becomes chipped where it is uneven - so the carpet man and insurance assessor said when he looked at my banana shaped dining room floor .

I wouldn't use any cleaning agent on my oak floor - I don't know if laminate is similar, but for my oak floor you are supposed to use a 'barely' wet mop (i.e. so that the surface moisture is such that it will be dry in around a minute) with just water! (i.e. no flash etc)

bread soda in water, directions are on the packet.
