Bedside cot

Just wanted to canvass for views on bedside cots. I'm BF my 6 month old and want to carry on for another 6 months if possible. Wondered whether a bedside cot would be a good idea. DD more often than not ends up in the bed with us as this is so much easier for feeding at night but it would be nice to get her used to her own cot. Would a bedside cot be a good idea? If so which one (that is not too expensive?) We have limited space in our room so it has to be quite slim as well

i would definielty recommend a bed side cot. Not only does it offer more room for everyone in the bed but it means you don't have to worry about anyone falling out!
I can't recommend a specific one though. we just adapted our ds's cotbed. sorry.

i think this one is supposed to be quite good.

We had one and used it till Dd was two, never really had any need to move her into her own room. The only problem was that as we had a bed with a wooden frame there was a gap that we had to push a blanket into which worked just fine to stop her falling into the gap.
The one we had was the Global bedside cot but the company has gone out of buisness now, they come up on ebay every so often and even though ours has been used for two year it still looks brand new so they wear really well.

Thanks guys. That is really helpful. I had looked at the mothercare one and thought it looked good - not too wide, although a bit pricey. Hopefully we would use it for quite a long time.

I used a Global one for DD and am going to use it again for bump due in Feb, have to say though, it was only ever a bed guard for DD as she never actually slept in it, it just stopped her falling out of our bed. I often looked longingly at it thinking what a waste of space when I was cramped between DD and DH, just wanted to try and crawl into it myself!

I bought a mamas and papas one - it has an extra bit that goes over your mattress , with a ridge to stop baby rolling out. Its pretty good... although DS has only slept a few hours in it - I missed him when he wasnt in the bed Ill do a link...

Quootiepie · 05/12/2006 14:33

here Doesnt show the extra mattress bit.

I can second that the mamas and papas one is v good, nice and solid, nice size, choice of eight mattress levels...

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 05/12/2006 14:42

WE had one for DS and it was deffo brill

we put a full sized sheet under our bed matteress and under his one too

so there was no chance of him falling

Quootiepie · 05/12/2006 14:43

it is very solid - when I pop DS in there for a feed, I lean in it and feed lying down - hasnt broken yet!

Had a look at the mothercare and mamas and papas ones now and think we might go for mothercare on a cost basis! Anyone know of any disocunt promotions for mothercare (or mamas and papas) at the moment? I was asked if I had a promotion code when I phoned mothercare. Thanks again for thoughts - always really helpful!
