Really good ones that actually smell.

Since acquiring our temporary stinky dog I have found scented candles to be essential. Unfortunately they are very expensive Diptique ones that have nearly run out and and I cannot afford to spend £30 per candle.

I tend to buy sampler candles, can buy Yankee which are strong but expensive.

"Something for the wickend" - cheaper alternative. Got some samplers last week and found some really strong ones. About 80p a sampler. Will use them again.

The Pier are expensive but quite nice, strong.

i use beeswax ones - really lovely natural smell of honey and will last longer if you keep them in the fridge first

poppy101 · 02/12/2006 19:03

Shrub where do you buy the candles from ?

EniDeepMidwinter · 02/12/2006 19:03

They are the small votive candles, last about 10 hours. Bigger than tea lights, you just put them in a small candle glass holder.

My best mate is a consultant for Partylite and even though the candles are quite expensive they are wonderful and even dh wouldnt be without them now.

I always think the pier stuff is nice.. you have to be picky and find the scents you like. the mango tea one is lovely

Yankee are really good, you can often find them at bargain prices in TK Maxx (although not the full range obviously).

kikidee · 02/12/2006 20:40

Diptique are very good but I think the M&S ones that come in black and white packaging and are about £10 come pretty close to them. The packaging is very similar too - i.e. wonky writing on the candle label and they are on-line too.

Gillian76 · 02/12/2006 20:43

Yankee are great imo. There are loads on ebay.

Gillian76 · 02/12/2006 20:44

I have a large jar Yankee candle that I got last year. It's called "autumn wreath" so I didn't use it over the spring/summer. Still smells as strongly as it did a year ago.

expatinscotland · 02/12/2006 20:56

The other option is to 'dress' a normal candle.

What you do is brush essential oil on the outside of it.

The candle will give off a subtle scent as it burns.

It's hard to beat a Diptyque candle....but, it's hard to justify the price.

Would it be an option to simply light some incense? Pungent and cheap....

springer72 · 02/12/2006 21:41

I like White Company ones. Maybe not quite as lovely as Diptyque, but not quite as expensive either.
Last year they started their sale before Christmas too.

lazyitis · 02/12/2006 21:43

TK Maxx - doing all the designer ones that cost around £30 for about a fiver

expatinscotland · 02/12/2006 21:48

I agree, Early. There really isn't any comparison to Dipthyque.

I am lusting after the Pomander one.

Sigh.
