What do they do? Are they just for fun or are they educational? Do they discourage interaction? Might it help DS with his fine motor skills? (DS is year 1 and lacks in strength to hold a pen properly).

TIA

they are just like a gameboy... screen to play cartridge games on with sounds and controls and a stylus thingy (for some games....). some games are good, some ok, some bloomin awful, you need to pick carefully... oh and they are quite addictive to some so use is likely to need to be rationed and policed like any screen thing (tv / computer). my ds's love them. are good for long journeys etc.

varies... the latest new thing (usually games based on films) often 29.99 new... but you can get lots of preowned stuff and a lot of swapping / borrowing amongst friends seems to go on...

Also - Nintendo Gameboy advance games fit in them so that makes it cheaper
