Recommendations for high chairs please??!!

It's that time already DD is five and a half months and seems to be ready for a high chair, she is sitting up unaided now, only for about 30 seconds but I figure it wont be long B'4 its long enough to sit in a high chair. We like the idea of the babydan as they can sit to the table and join in the family meal, although it seems a little expensive compared to alot of other. Is it worth it? Any advice and recommendations would be great,Txs.
I have to confess to be getting slightly addicted to this mums net but its great to read all the tips and easy to ask for help, can you believe my husband was the one to get me started on it too, he used it to look at all the tips when we were pregnant...........

I guess the tray is worth getting anyway right?

Also is it just the one colour they do in Ikea?

yes and yes

We've got a Cosatto Aurora and love it ! It has a 3 position reclining padded seat and can be adjusted to a number of heights. It has a great big removable tray and is pretty easy to clean too. Here is a here

There is also an MN review page on highchairs, here

More serious outlay, but have you looked at Tripp Trapp? (see this thread ) and here's the maker's website. Used ours from around 5 months - you can get a "baby set" for support.

Ivybridgite · 12/05/2004 13:41

Txs Binkie, didn't see that thread B'4, very interesting, it looks like it's between the Danchair or Tripp trapp then!!!

We have a Tripp Trapp and love it Never seen any need for a tray at all. Dd just sits at the table with us, and she can also use it for painting and creative stuff at the table or at the computer. We got it when she was 5 months - she was able to sit up unaided - and she is now 2 years. Going strong and we wouldn't have any other now.

Tripp Trapps are brilliant and last forever (until they can sit in a normal chair) so worth the investment.
If you're short of space those ones that clip to the table are fantastic. We got one from John Lewis for DD as we lived in quite a small flat at the time. Enabled her to sit up at the table with us, lasted til she was nearly two, and is portable so you can take it with you when you visit parents etc.
We now have a fold up booster which sits on our normal kitchen chairs and is also portable for visiting.

Ivybridgite ---

have you looked on kiddicare as they do some excellent one have one very simlar to the tripp trap but half the price.

michellefromlakeland · 12/05/2004 14:45

I dont want mine reaching stuff ont hetable tho
ds3 like a n octopus

oliveoil · 12/05/2004 14:46

My friend has the ikea one and it is far easier to get into than the one I have, mothercare I think. If dd is in strop mode and her legs go stiff (!) it is v hard to shove her in. Also, you can't take the straps off to clean off muck.

goosey · 12/05/2004 14:48

is that ivybridge in devon??

michellefromlakeland · 12/05/2004 14:51

tyes ikea one def the best if you eant a trad one
mine is older and has an affixed tray

crumpet · 12/05/2004 15:26

Can't beat the ikea prices, but we went for the early years chair (mothercare), which straps to a normal chair. We liked it as it reclined during the early months when she needed a bit more support, and you can still pull it up to the table when you want to.

JanZ · 12/05/2004 15:29

We loved the Tripp trapp. However, when ds first went in to it, we needed to "prop" him up with thick ski socks shoved down either side of him - and that was WITH the full baby set.

Once he was sitting up more strongly, we dispensed with the socks.

I got the Ikea 'Tuffing' one in purple, similar to the one on Michellefromlakeland's link, the tray was only £3 extra, and has been going strong for a couple of years. Very transportable, steady on it legs etc. I got a purple cusion from M'care which goes perfectly. Used a bumbo to feed dd in until she was about 14 months, so didn't need a huge reclining highchair which would just get in the way.

Ds has a Brio flex highchair from Urchin which is gorgeous, but they don't do them any more. It is the same idea as a trip trap but has chrome les more like a bar stool. If anyone has one they want to sell let me know, please!!!

shrub · 12/05/2004 18:21

can't speak for the tripp trapp but the prima papa was pants -even though it had 5 stars in 'best baby buy guide'. all the food gets stuck under the cushion and creases.i have a friend who is a doctor and she ties her ds's arms down to feed him because she is so sick of the mess. another mum puts her ds in an empty paddling pool and lets her ds feed himself so he can fling the food around to his hearts content. (please don't worry not all babies are as messy!!)

hana · 12/05/2004 18:42

nother vote for tripp trapp.
easy to clean
no tray
can move seat as they get taller
ergonomically correct
looks good
eat at table

but a bit expensive
don't buy the cushions, just use your own

charlieplus3 · 12/05/2004 19:30

I had a highchair and found it quite cumbersome so invested in a First Years Seat. They are suitable from when baby can sit and my two year old can use it too. I wouldnt be without it, plus you can take it with you when visting friends or going to restaurants. It has a large tray and two seat levels, easy to keep clean and can be stored away easier than a highchair.

Theese first years seats are quite different from the normal booster seats, sorry i cant do a link but most places sell them.

charlieplus3 · 12/05/2004 19:31

My Ds has sat in it from 4 months.

Gem13 · 12/05/2004 19:55

Another vote for the cheap Ikea one. Friend who has Tripp Trapp has moaned about it a lot.

Piffleoffagus · 12/05/2004 19:58

We adore out Tripp Trapp
