water filter kettle

Has any one got one of those kettles that filters the water as well as boils it. Just wondered if it was worth it - we live in a very hard water area and I never get round to descaling the kettle, consequently it's on its last legs.

I got one because I was fed up with descaling my kettle - hard water here too. It has made a big difference - kettle only gets a tiny amount of scale at the bottom which comes off easily, I generally do it once a month when I change the filter.

I would recommend getting one which filters and boils at the same time - mine doesn't and I often set it to filter and then forget to come back and turn it on - plus it takes ages if the kettle is not already filled.

Having said all that, if you already have a separate water filter you could just fill the kettle from that and have a normal kettle.

yep, we've got one. you have to be careful not to overfil or to pour when just boiling cos they have a tendancy to spill over the top (bit damgerous actually). but otherwise i've not cleaned mine and it is fine

We had one about 3 years ago, but I found we had to replace the cartridge every 2 weeks (very hard water area) otherwise the scale started to build up again. We've since changed to having a separate water filter jug by the kettle which we use to fill the kettle and this is much better - can go up to 5 weeks (should be 4 but I've a crap memory ) before scale starts to appear in the kettle. Also you can't boil as much water in a filter kettle compared to a regular one - guess it depends how many people your brewing for...

ours filters and boils much better than the others we have had
I'm not sure longevity is different though - both of ours lasted about 18 mths before hinges and lids started going.
But we would not have another one
Other option is to buy water filter jug and use that water in the kettle.
often cheaper

I mean we would not have a normal kettle again as we love our filter one, despite its creaky hinges

we use a separate filter jug - for both the kettle and the coffee maker

Thanks everyone for your input. I hadn't thought of buying a water filter also . I will have a look into it.

I acquired one since I was tired of descaling my kettle due to the hard water in my area. It's made a significant impact; the kettle now only accumulates a little amount of scale at the bottom, which is easily removed; I do it once a month when I change the filter.

I'd recommend having one that filters and boils at the same time - mine doesn't, and I frequently forget to switch it on after setting it to filter - moreover it takes a long time if the kettle isn't already full.

Having said that, if you already have a separate water filter, you could just use it to fill the kettle and have a regular kettle. Detailed information may be found here —> waterfilterinsight.com/
