I am fed up with cheapo mops from Tesco's that have complicated mechanisms and don't friggin work!! I have literally acres of laminate flooring in this house and need a good mop - any good suggestions??? Or do I just go for hands and knees with wet cloth???

I think it would be ok for laminate, I have ceramic and I bought myself a steam machine. Pricey but a good investment if you have large areas of hard flooring. Check our Poulti avail in John Lewis or internet.

You need a microfibre mop - I've got one like that, and it's great. You can use it dry for dusting, and damp for more thorough cleaning. Don't need any chemicals, just water, and chuck the head bit in the washing machine to clean it. I've also got one of these for dusting with. They're fab too. (we have laminate too, btw)

Thinking about it, I think mine did actually come from QVC.

In fact it was this one . The cloths are great - you can wrap them round the mop, or you can use them for other things.
(OK - I'm sad, aren't I, getting this enthusiastic about a mop).

I have tried every mop on the market I think, the ones where you buy wips to put on, the ones where you add liquid and then a blanket, the ones where you add a sponge and this is my advice.

Get a cheap J cloth style one and after rinsing it, squeeze it out by hand and use on laminate. Keep replacing when it gets shabby, they are 99p from wilkinsons. Bit of bleach for me in the water and job done.

Reason for squeezing out by hand is that I don't want laminate to get too wet and the big white traditional ones are too big to get a propergrip on.

That's why I like the microfibre ones, UCM - you can squeeze them out till they're almost dry, and it works really well.

TBH I ditched the mop about 6mths ago and always go on my hands and knees now - I have a dog and cats so need to do the floors everyday - it just seems to take me the same length of time (after you have filled/emptied/wrung out mop). I use dettol floor wipes but use elbow grease instead. Makes the floors much cleaner IMO too.

ernest · 29/11/2006 13:28

we have a (different to Jackieno's) microfibre mop too for our laminate and tiled floors and they're great.

JN, do you use the duster mop? I just hoover themn use the microfibre mop. Is the dusting one really great/better than hoover/as good as hoover?

JackieNo · 29/11/2006 13:32

I like the duster one - it kind of 'grabs' the dust so it all stays in the mop, (then you have to shake it out somewhere of course). Quicker (for me) than getting the hoover out, and you can do it if LOs are asleep, as it's silent. I have a hand version as well, for general dusting - love that too. Very quick and easy.

Will try one of those Jackie, ta
