Am just wondering if a desk is a good idea for ds(4.7yrs) so he can do his homework easily.

Or do you think it is a waste of money and the kitchen table is fine.

If you think it is a good idea could you point me to some nice ones please.

TIA

My ds(9) has a desk in his room but in reality uses the dining room table - it is easier to supervise - they still need help until at least senior school stage I think. His desk is used mostly as a big shelf!

just been thinking of getting dss one as they like to draw. cheers cod will look at that one.

LIZS · 21/11/2006 17:44

ds has one - he's 8 now, was at least 5 before we bothered and even then it got little use until last year. Pulls out from under the mid height bed from Flexa range. dd has no room atm.

DD has a pull out bed under her bed. She uses it to play on, not for homework/writing, etc. She does tat downstairs. Her little desk is in the kitchen so she can "work" whilst I cook.

i dont know if I will bother. I think I will wait til he is older.

i get one for mine when they start school - a small sturdy ikea table is fine - helps them work independantly imo

KBear · 23/11/2006 20:57

I got my ds a Thomas the Tank Engine desk and stool for his 4th birthday. It's in his bedroom and he sits at it quite often - now he is 5 and just started school he likes to sit at his desk and be like his big sister and "do learning" as he puts it!

I think 4 is too young,dd has a desk but she's 14.I think once they're in senior school is the best time. They don't need the supervision then.

ds has this one and he absolutely loves it. he is 4.7 yo and he uses it for colouring and drawing and not really for homework. he really likes having a desk in his room cos i think he feels like it is his personal space (away from little brother!)

this one from ikea is also great as it has space inside for pens and papers

My DS (5) does any homework in the kitchen. The amount he has had so far as been so minimal that it really would be a waste having a desk. Also all colouring/drawing etc activities are done in the kitchen. DS does have a small table in his bedroom though with his CD player on it and also he uses it for doing his Leappad. DD (2) is getting a dressing table for Christmas - I think it would double as a desk - she would be able to play with her leappad (also getting for Christmas) on it.
