Getting ahead of myself here as baby not quite born yet but if he/she's going to be anything like her/his sister, she/he'll be at least 55cm long. So I'm looking for a longer and larger than normal basket. Thanks.

my last two babies were that size and I used a crib for 6 months in our room then they went into a cot in their own room

I never used a basket for my daughter at all, she slept in her cot from day 3! But this time round we won't have a room ready because we'll be moving house a few months after the birth.

Pop him/her in the cot in your room - I would not bother with a moses basket.... (ds was in his for all of 4 weeks before he went in his cot, and dd was in it for about 3 weeks I believe...)

Not sure where you would get a big moses basket from, I thought they were all pretty much the same size...

The thing about a bigger basket, if they exist, is that surely it would be more unstable if you tried to lift it. I used a wooden gliding crib beside our bed for ds3 (my Moses basket was worn out by being used by his 3 siblings and at least 2 cousins !). I found the crib much longer than a Moses basket; he used it for about 4m I think.

Maybe you could get a cheap small cot or crib from Ikea or through Ebay.
I felt that the moses basket was a waste of time as DS didn't seem very happy in it and slept much better once in his cot.

DS was 57cms when born and hated his moses basket. After about a week,he slept in our room in the travel cot, which was great,as he had lots of room in there and was much happier.

why not try a carrycot?
I got one second-hand and bought a (new) wooden stand for it.
was much stronger and more stable than a basket, and I could put it on the bed beside me and sleep with my hand in it (which to me is the joy of a basket rather than a cot with a newborn babe)
