Does anyone know of a herbal supplement that would help dh prepare for and get through an exam?

He's studying for his accountancy exmans and in December is sitting this paper for the fourth time. It's become a bit of an issue for him and he's getting quite down about it. He spends ages studying but feels that he isn't retaining the information as he should (it's tax so there are lists and lists of figures, percentages and regulations) adn does get quite worked up before the day so I wondered if there was anything that he could take that would help

TIA

my daughter is sitting her exams and she takes rescue remedy, it works a treat. get it in most health food shops as a spray or as drops to put into water. good luck

We were all popping a homeopathic rememdy called Aconite before our finals, there were about 10 of us at it by the end. Got it from Boots I think.

Rescue remedy is good for exam nerves at the time, but In the mean time, there is some evidence to suggest that omega 3 can help concentration and Ginkgo Biloba is suppsed to be excellent for memory and brain boosting So can't hurt to start popping some supplements.

I would go for rescue remedy definitely, have also taken aconite for feeling anxious about impending due date and it has really helped.

during my exams recently I tool valerina to help me relax and sleep at night and took Boots Sharp Mind with ginkgo biloba during teh day to help me work. I am pretty convinved the valerina worked - more difficult to tell with the other stuff, but I think it might have helped. Boots have a good range. I would also say (as I always do) that good old fresh air is extremely important - if nothing more than a bracing walk once a day - good for concentration and for sleep. If he has to learn stuff by rote he should also think a bit creatively - record it and play it to himself whilst walking, stick it on post it notes round the house, whatever he does - it's important not to just read - worst way of studying - he needs to use the info, do practice questions over and over, if possible get together in groups and takl about them. there's a good book by a guy called Peter Levin which might help. If he's taken the paper 3 times then it's almost certain that he needs to rethink how he works - trying to work "more" quite possibly won;t cut it.

Personally I would recommend making sure his diet has enough nutrients and eating stuff like oily fish seeds and nuts etc. rather than taking supplements.

Just be careful with herbal remedys as I'm convinced I failed some of my actuarial exams because I was taking ginko biloba (sp?) that had been recommended by a friend as being good for memory. What it didn't say on the box was that it can disturb your sleep. I thought I was just stressed so unable to sleep.

I can understand how your DH feels as I ended up sitting some of my exams 3 times and it can really get you down. Make sure he takes enough breaks and winds down before going to bed at night otherwise tax figures will be going round and round in his head!!
