Bear Hunt

It's happened..baby dd has fallen in love..she is becoming inseperable from her cream Chad Valley bear (about 14 inches high, with a black stitched-on mouth, and a little black stitched tummy button)...'Dermot' as we call him..has already survived one nasty accident so I am searching for a spare bear.

Has anyone seen one similar lurking in a nearby shop (Dermot was bought by a friend of my Mum's..and Mum is out of the country at the moment visiting new grandchild).

MY DD has one which she calls White Bear, but I am afaid she will nor part with it.

I hope there is someone out there that can help out.

Think Chad Valley are sold in Woolworths, if that helps.

bluebear · 06/05/2004 14:39

Pinning hopes on Woolies at the moment..there isn't one near us...but there is one in the shoppping centre near the lady who bought the bear...can't find it on woolies on-line though.

Keep your eyes peeled please

Bluebear, I have sent you a message via "contact another talker"

bluebear · 06/05/2004 16:18

Thank you M.Butterfly. I have found a woolworths which is a bus-ride away..so I'm off on a bear hunt tomorrow.

(If anyone spots him anywhere else please post,as I'm not sure he'll be in Woolworths, Thanks)

As far as I'm aware Chad Valley is only in Woolworths. Its their own-brand toy name.
Post again if you have no joy as I'm always in Woolies and will look out for you.

MadameButterfly · 06/05/2004 21:34

Bluebear,
Let us know if you can't find him and I will look in my local store for you on Saturday.

MadameButterfly · 06/05/2004 21:38

Bluebear,
What was the "nasty accident"?

bluebear · 07/05/2004 12:15

Posey - thanks..dh had the bright idea of looking up Chad Valley at companies house last night and saw it was a Woolworth brand so at least the field is narrowed down. (He didn't believe I couldn't find one on the net so repeated all the stuff I'd done...Grr!)

MadameButterfly..Dermot goes to nursery with dd every day..on the way home from nursery ds (2 year old) decides to take Dermot from dd and cuddle him. Ds also holding a picture he had done at nursery in some sort of paint/chalk stuff (bright pink)..bright pink dust all over cream bear (which dd likes to suck).
House was turned into bear hospital that night..hoovering, gentle washing, in the end..Pampers wipes got a lot of it off..but he still has a slightly pink arm, and nose.
Moral to this tale is ...keep White Bear away from fresh paint!

DD's white Bear has had sevaral trips in the washing machine as he get filthy from all the cuddles he gets

bluebear · 07/05/2004 12:40

That's useful to know..I've been too scared to do anything other than surface-wash Dermot..and his ears are getting very manky!

Our rule after losing 'Swindon', ds's ELC bear, is that he doesnt get to leave the house anymore. We freaked out when he went missing and I really dont want to repeat the 'Strawberry' thread!!!!

bluebear · 07/05/2004 15:41

I'm back from Woolworths..no identical bears in stock..have boought a couple of similar bears (smaller but same style face and same squishiness), and have got one living inside my top so it gets stinky , hope she'll swap allegiance!

I'd forgotten how wonderful Woolworths is..came back with a great train set for ds, and stuff for the house, so a nice trip out. Will ring a friend from the town where Dermot came from and see if she can pop into the local Woolies this weekend.
Thanks for everyone's help.

Collision - the problem is that dd doesn't 'need' the bear at home..she's using it as a comforter when I'm not around. The poor babe has gone from almost undiluted mummy company to nursery 4 days a week, and she wasn't settling well. Nursery suggested a couple of toys from home might help so Dermot and Moo got sent in...this started the obsession. I could leave him at nursery, but at the moment he comes home and sleeps in our bed so he remains 'smelling of home' (hmmm..is that too gross..sorry). Dd is only 7 months so we're hoping she'll be persuaded into loving the new bear(s).
