If I buy a chest of drawers in Ikea on my own will any of the staff help me put them in the car?

hoxtonchick · 15/11/2006 10:55

god no. especially not if you're 8 months pregnant...

geekgrrl · 15/11/2006 10:56

and if you happen to be 8 months pregnant and have a toddler with you, everybody will just gawp even more at the spectacle..

hoxtonchick · 15/11/2006 10:57

i wonder what it is that drives us to ikea when so pregnant geekgrrl?

Tasa · 15/11/2006 11:01

one of my freinds this morning laughed when I asked her. How bloody awful is that- not lauighing but not having anyone to help? Okay so how am I supposed to buy a set of drawers from there?

stick it on a trolley, then you leave it in the pick up area whilst you go & get the car. good luck!

serenity · 15/11/2006 11:08

It'll come flat packed so unless you are unbelievably weedy you should be OK. You can get help at IKEA, but not if you go at the most busiest time because, well, everyone is busy! The main reason IKEA is cheap is because you are expected to DIY, from picking it up to taking it home, they don't do customer service (seriously!)

Really, if you're going to buy something bulky and you need help - bring someone with you

about not getting help when pg.

hoxtonchick · 15/11/2006 11:10

actually, i'm being unfair. when i was pg with dd (so plus toddler ds) one lady was super-helpful with the enormous bed i was buying. and i'd even taken my mum as a precaution .

Bozza · 15/11/2006 11:12

I have never had help from staff but have had help from fellow customers. And I have often gone on my own with 1/2 children in tow and when pregnant.

UCM · 15/11/2006 11:13

I thought they had removed the bollards so you can push the trolley to car. I would ask the nearest bloke once at the car.

serenity · 15/11/2006 11:15

IKEA is the only place I've worked at where you're actually told that your priority is your work not helping customers - everywhere else you're meant to look out for people in need, ask people if they need help, here you're told that if you do your job right, you won't need to help them as they can get all the info off the boxes/shelves etc. It's very liberating

KTeepee · 15/11/2006 11:15

In the Brent Park one they have removed the bollards now so you can push your trolley all the way... but when i was pregnant and you couldn't do this I would collar whichever employee I saw as I came out and ask them to help (or at least watch my trolley as I unloaded it.) They never refused, though they probably weren't too keen!

serenity · 15/11/2006 11:16

You can take the trolleys to your car in Croydon too.

BudaBeast · 15/11/2006 11:24

No I realise why IKEA does well in Hungary! Hungarians just don't DO customer service anyway!!

Actually - have bought something heavy from IKEA here and asked a male member of staff and he did help to get it on trolley for me.

Then got it delivered.

Cappuccino · 15/11/2006 11:29

I once went to Ikea to buy a double mattress on my own, got it on the trolley no problem, trolleyed it out to the car, and just asked someone in the car park to give me a hand putting it in

very nice lady she was too. didn't ask a bloke as that seemed a bit weedy and girly

Skribble · 15/11/2006 14:40

Staff will help if you can find one that doesn't have another 10 people queing up to ask them for help.

It will come flat pack in a box that should be fairly east to handle.

Our Ikea used to have bollards around the loading are so you can't take the trollies out, you can now so where ever you park you can take trollies up to the car, or you can park trolley in a locker, get the car and park in the loading area, if you get stuck actually lifting in to the car look out for the trolley guys.

If box is on a high up shelf be careful lifting it down, find a tall hunky male to slide it down for you (oh er missus ) .

Skribble · 15/11/2006 14:43

Best seats in the coffe shop are the ones overlooking the loading bay, its like live reality divorce TV, oh the joy of watching newly weds trying to get a full kitchen plus dining suite into a punto . Take it from me you can't fit a king size bed frame plus mattress in even a quite large car.

The reason I am still married is because DH has a transit and I do Ikea on my own then phone hime to collect me, lot less painful really ,
