John West Tuna...BONES INSIDE!!!!

3 weeks ago i opened one of the small tins of tuna in sunflower oil for my dd (almost 3) i buy the multipacks with 3 small tins in. I found a piece of bone about 5 cm long, i emailed John West and they sent me a apologetic letter and a 5 pound voucher (whoopie).

THEN on Weds i opened another, seperate pack i must add, this time another multipack but the tuna chunks in brine and found a piece of bone about 1 & 1/2 inch long! Cannot believe within 3 weeks i have come across 2 seperate occasions of finding a thin, sharp piece of bone!

John West have asked me to send them the bone, don't really know why, but should i send it? or keep it and take it further?

I buy John West as i always thought it was the best, i guess not! but be warned, make sure you properly check any tuna before giving it to you little one.

well. fish has bones.
they can't get it all out

pucca · 13/11/2006 23:12

Erm yes i do realise that but there shouldn't be sharp pieces of bone sitting in a can of tuna, plus there are no warnings on the tin of a chance of bone being inside.

It certainly wouldn't be fun for a 3 yr old to be having a bone stuck in her throat.

Oh and surely you mean fish HAVE bones.

hairymclary · 13/11/2006 23:21

oooh well sooooooorry.
i just don't find it particularly odd that you would find a fish bone in a tin of... oooh wait for it... fish.

surely you'd always check it before giving it to anyone

pucca · 13/11/2006 23:22

Er yes ok, of course you are right, how silly of me

yes, i wouldn't be surprised to find bones in john west tuna.

i can think of a lot of other things that i would not like to find in my can of tuna though!

you'd be shocked at what legally can get inside canned goods. it is worked on a 1 in x ratio of things like glass, hair, and even worse unthinkables.

pucca · 13/11/2006 23:27

Thankyou Somethingunderthebedisdrooling for explaining what you think iykwim, instead as coming across as being funny.

i'd send them to bone since they asked for it. as they may be worried too.

moondog · 14/11/2006 00:00

Blimey.
Am considering the daunting possibilty of finding a grain of wheat in my loaf now!

Aargh,that would be outrageous.
Who could I sue??

Why are so many people sarcastic on this website??? is there really any need, always seems to be the same posters too

I may not have a degree in biology, but yes i do realise fish have bones, you know if i go onto a thread and someone else has already posted what i would answer, then i don't feel the need to repeat and add a duplicate of exactly what someone else has said.

REALLY sorry i posted now tbh, this site gets worse and worse by the minute!!!

Also WWW, no i do not just throw it on a plate, that is why i found the bone!

Moondog, i am not about to sue anyone, but thanks for the really helpful comments.

If they have asked you to send it then I would. I think that's standard policy - sometimes you have to send the receipt of where you bought it from too, not that the shop would have put it in there!!

I once found a little crab claw in a tin of tuna!!

moondog · 14/11/2006 12:19

Pucca,we are just having a larf.
Didn't mean to upset you, kid.

divamummy · 14/11/2006 13:24

pucca,

you will love them,too
[ignore those eats bones in fish]
agree with you people being sarcastic.

morningpaper · 14/11/2006 13:28

I always mash mine in a bowl before giving it to Smalls

I kind of expect that some bones will get through

Carmenere · 14/11/2006 13:30

Pucca, it is perfectly natural to find bones in tinned fish and you should be wary of this and check evry time you open a tin, even if it is marked boneless. This is common sense imo and I think that is why a few unkind posters have taken the piss.
