HELP maternity jeans that don't fall down otherwise I'm buying some braces!

Please please please, there must be some maternity jeans out there somewhere that actually stay up and are comfortable

I'm desperate for some jeans, I've tried virtually every pair from Next, an (expensive) pair from Crave (£56 and a right waste of money, wore them today and got unbelievably stressed at having to hike them up literally every minute), a pair from Formes from 1st pregnancy, inbetween sizes at M&S and H&M, no luck in Topshop/Dorothy Ps. SOMEWHERE MUST DO SOME!!

Also, they need to be long (I'm 5ft9) and go up to size 16.

Otherwise I will have to buy braces...

I wish I could give you some reassurance but I had exactly the same problem - they do all fall down and I got so fed up during my pregnancy!! Certainly all 'under the bump' ones do - I never tried the ones with elasticated waistband things that go over your bump? Have you tried those, maybe they are better?

lexiemum · 13/11/2006 19:20

had the same problem too - what styles are you buying - adjustable elastic waist or with elastic panels in sides and/or front.

I'm v.tall so had to have Long tall sally's two pairs of trousers - one style of jeans and one of black trousers so not much choice for me and therefore had to weather the constant pulling up for several months.

did find that I was more comfortable in skirts and dresses though.

what about buying an extending belt loop thingy for your normal trousers?
have you tried mothercare and blooming marvellous?

funnypeculiar · 13/11/2006 19:20

Give up now, that's my advice.... even the elasticy over the bump ones are better at staying up for a couple of weeks when you are at 'optimum' size, ime, and they look SHOCKING...Only ones I got that stayed up were some Blooming Marvellous under the bump flares (no longer stocked, just checked) but they only stayed up b/cos they were WAY too tight & left a rather unpleasant ridge in my tum
I wish you much luck...

amazonianwoman · 13/11/2006 19:21

Thanks for replying, I can't believe how stressful it is!

The Formes ones have a wideish stretchy panel which kind of half covers the bump but when bump gets big they fall down.

Can't get the adjustable elasticated waist ones to stay up without digging right in.

H&M do ones with huge elasticated panel which actually feel most comfy, but large size JUST fits, and XL is way too big.

Aaarrgghhh!

Tried Mothercare (all looked frumpy) and Blooming Marvellous (didn't even stay up in changing rooms and weren't long enough)

Thanks anyway. Think I'm resigned to my 2 pairs of black stretchy bootleg trousers from 1st pregnancy which are now shiny and bobbled and get v sweaty as they're 100% polyester. Oh well.

BTW those straps that hold up trousers - are they called braces or something else??!! Tried googling and keep finding links to medical supports for knees and wrists

I have given up and accept that I need to pull all my jeans up every now and then
Have you tried bump bands? I'm finding them v good for dealing with the gap

Someone else suggested using a scarf as a belt

funnypeculiar · 13/11/2006 19:35

If you want a REAL challenge, now go look for a feeding bra that doesn't make you feel 101 years old, and like you need to go hunt out your biggest granny pants ever...

xmasstocking · 13/11/2006 19:44

I got some lovely ones from MOthercare (feeding bras, not jeans!) - they were pink with a lace trim - even DH liked them - waste of time mind since I didn't bf in the end!!

(Sorry Amazonian - a bit of a hijack there!)

I have tried lots of maternity jeans and have spent a fortune ppsting back lots of unsuitable ones. I am also 5'9 and my problem was that they were all too short. I finally bought these and I wore them yesterday and they didn't fall down. I only had to pull them up when I bent over. They are only just long enough thought but they were the best I could get. I really wanted the Seraphine ones but they were constantly out of stock. Seraphine do a good belt here which I bought for some Formes trousers that fall down constantly.

Good luck!

Thought about a bump band but it's not just the gap I'm worried about, rather the fact that the gusset bit ends up half way down my thighs.

Like the look of the Topshop ones - didn't know they did online ordering Will try them.

Think I tried Seraphine ones last time but they were too tight so sent them back.

Know what you mean about the nursing bras. My last lot were sooo huge I used to get underarm sweat marks on them, they were so, err, all-encompassing

I'm finding that most of the maternity jeans are made for those women (girls) who want to show off theie bare bump to the world....

I don't think the world is quite ready for my 39 year old, 3rd baby worth of stretchmarks bump!

kikidee · 13/11/2006 20:00

The online ordering works a treat, it took 2 days I think. They are not nearly as wide legged as they look on the site but they are nice on.

Tex111 · 13/11/2006 20:01

I had some great Gap maternity jeans from the States, wore them for both pregnancies and they stayed up well and were nice and long. I think they're now doing maternity in the UK and stock them on Oxford Street. If you're not in London you could contact your local Gap and see if they have maternity somewhere in your area.

I also used some Belgian belly bands from a shop called Cache Cache. They're just loops of jersey in different colours and patterns and they helped hold my trousers up and also allowed me to wear non-maternity tops. It just looked like I had layered a longer top underneath. Very useful.

Tex111 · 13/11/2006 20:02

As for bras, love the Elle Macpherson range. Very pretty and very comfy.

amazonianwoman · 13/11/2006 21:10

Tommy - know what you mean! I'm 40 and there's no way on earth I'd (deliberately) bare my bump to Joe Public.

No Gap maternity in Manchester, but think I've seen some on Ebay, so will try there

Seems like the belly/bump bands are definitely worth a try. If nothing else, they'll keep me warm through winter

Thanks all

I bought a pair in Asda for £16, deffo go up to size 16.

I found every pair fell down too as most are under the bump, these are a bit higher than under the bump but have a fabric/elasticated band around the top. They DO stay up!!!!

Tommy · 13/11/2006 22:53

thanks westcountrylass - the big asda near us has just opened up again after a refit and apparently they have maternity clothes there - I'll take alook

PrettyCandles · 13/11/2006 23:04

This summer Mothercare had some excellent dungarees. Yes, I know dungarees are considered naff, but they were the most comfortable maternity trousers I had worn in 9m, they stayed up, and they were generously long.

puppydavies · 14/11/2006 09:48

not a helpful reply i'm sure, but i'm sooooo happy my friend just called and is returning my fantastic maternity jeans. i bought them from the states, and they were expensive, but sooooo worth it. they're from japanese weekend, have a good wide leg, nice stretch fabric and a wide (c. 4inch) elastic waistband that goes under the bump. they stay up a treat and are sooooo comfy.

i've never seen a similar style over here, i've no idea why not. maybe you could get some on ebay?

puppydavies · 14/11/2006 09:54

not your size, but these are the same style as mine and goddammit they're cheap

fizzbuzz · 14/11/2006 10:43

The only ones that would stay up for me were some ones from Asda at £9.99. They were over bump trousers. On the bump just fall down.
I got a great pair from Blooming Marvellous, that were wide legs. They fitted under bump, but had like a ribbed waistband AND a drawstring, and they were v comfortable although you still had to wear longish tops with them. You can have them for cost of postage if you want!
Size 16L (but small 16-all other mat clothes were a 14)

amazonianwoman · 14/11/2006 13:53

Thanks for the link PD, and for the very generous offer FB - unfortunately a small 16 wouldn't fit me if you wear 14 otherwise.

Off to investigate Asda this afternoon, fingers crossed
