Brio builder system toys.....would you recommend for ds (nearly 3)?

Ds (2.10) loves construction stuff and tools. Thought of getting him a work bench for Christmas, but we're short on space and I saw this tool box and thought it looked good, especially as it seems to be a system you can build up. We could get a couple of relatives to get an extension set, or one of the vehicles (I think there was some less complicated one designed specifically for 2/3 years)......
However, I've never come across this before, and wondered if anyone's children has them, and what you think. Any thoughts much appreciated (along with alternative construction ideas - he currently has small amounts of lego, duplo and megablocks).

We have the Brio construction vehicles set for ds aged 6. Plenty of adult help is needed even for his age but it is top quality and he loves it. Far too old for 2 yr old - I suggest choosing a set that is more for role play and less actual construction for that age. Have you checked out the elc catalogue. The Big Builder looks good.

Rafaella - thanks so much for the reply, only just seen this...

I'm hoping that the set your son has will be one of the age 5+ ones, which do look very complicated, but they do them for age 2+ (v simple) and age 3+ as well, and it's these that I'm looking at (these are the aged 3+ models..... ). Do you think they're too complex?

The Big Builder stuff looks great as well, so now I can't decide....

What do you think?

ds had the tool box at a that age and then the tractor, Scoop and helicopter which are pretty simple (mainly pushed together with links banged in with hammer) but some adult input required. though. tbh Big Builder isn't any less fiddly.

Those little Brio vehicle sets look fun but it depends on your ds - he will probably need help to put them together 'properly' but might enjoy fitting bits any old way himself. I think Duplo is the best construction toy for that age. If you want role play tool sets, Toys R us have a good selection on their website. My ds was mad about a drill that 'worked' for ages.

Ds loved the Build & Go range at ELC. We were given the car to build - an electric screwdriver with different parts, could go clockwise and anti-clockwise (to screw and unscrew obviously ), lots of screws to put in and could be build in various different ways. Was tempted to get others in the range but then moved onto Big Builder and then Brio builder. We bought him a tool box from Home base (so that he felt it was "the same as Daddy's" rather than being a pretend tool box) and he filled it with his collection of tools built up from various kits including the ones above.
