Skincare Regime?

What do you do? Do you cleanse/tone/moisturise or are you a splash and go girl?

I had a lovely Elemis facial yesterday and took the plunge and bought the range of products - Ive let me skincare regime slip since birth of DS and want to get back into to it to brighten my skin up.

What is your regime?

Cringe, I splash with water every day in the shower, I have a J&J Clean & Clear (?) scrub that I use once or twice a week in the shower I've got some Nivea and some similar stuff starting with A that Joanna Lumley professes to use, can't remember the name. I rarely wear makeup but when I do I take it off with either baby lotion or a baby wipe, the next day. My Mum is truely someone who has only ever used baby lotion on her skin and she has fantastic skin, although I have fairer and more delicate skin than she does so should probably make more of an effort. I'm just shocked at the price of these products!

Demented · 03/05/2004 10:20

Notice I say "I've got some Nivea ...", didn't actually say that I use it that often.

I am a complete Eve Lom skincare disciple. As she suggests, I make a mug of camomile tea in the morning, and let it steep/cool for about 10 minutes. Then dip muslin in, and squeeze out excess liquid. Hold muslin over face for 10-15 seconds to "open" the pores. Repeat. Then splash face with cold tap water. (Slightly more elaborate version of splash 'n go!) My skin is fairly oily, so don't usually use a moisturiser, but she has a good daycream that I use sparingly. That's it for the morning routine.

In the evening, I use her cleanser to clean face/remove makeup. Remove cleanser with muslin dipped in hot tap water, and scrub gently. The muslin has a slightly rough texture which sloughs off dead cells, and keeps skin from looking dull.

A few times a week, I exfoliate. Usually do it in the bath before I wash hair. In theory, should use a clay masque once a week too - but I usually don't manage it. I also go for a professional facial a few times a year. They always lecture me about the importance of using an eye cream, but somehow that never gets done at home.

Must say that the best thing to keep my skin looking good is to drink lots and lots of water. Have made a special point to do that over the last few months as I have attempted to follow the Weightwatcher's Diet plan. The difference it's made to my complexion is visible......and surprising. Far fewer clogged pores.

Eve Lom cleanser is wonderful stuff ... but sooooo expensive!

Crunchie · 03/05/2004 13:21

OK My regime (!) I use Clinique facial soap in the shower, most mornings or evening dependant on when I have a shower! 2 - 3 times a week I use ASDA's facial scrub. Afterwards I use Boots Time delay anti ageing moisturiser. About once a week I use Clinique Turnaround cream at night. Eye cream is saved for when I remember. I hardly ever remember to take makeup off before I go to bed What a slut! My only thing I do try to stick with is some sort of anti ageing cream (even though I'm only 34!) I swear by it and have been using it for about 7 years. Most people think I am about 7 years younger than I am so it has arrested my development

Oh and I squeeze my blackheads and spots too Oily skin is far better for you really as it is less likely to age

glitterfairy · 03/05/2004 13:25

Surely crunchie at the moment you are dry skin brushing as well? AM amazed earlybird and really really impressed by your strict routine. I reckon that those of us who want to ignore the yearnings of chocolate should possibly take more time to do regimes on skin etc and we wouldnt have time to eat at all!

Earlybird · 03/05/2004 13:32

Glitterfairy - took far longer to type out the routine than to do it each day!! Also think that by having some semblance of a routine that I can avoid the consequences of too much sun in my youth!

Spacemonkey - you're right that the Eve Lom stuff is expensive. But, I use it sparingly and only buy once or twice a year. At least, that's how I justify it to myself!

tamum · 03/05/2004 14:07

Earlybird, have you ever tried the Boots version of the Eve Lom cleanser? I quite like it, but have never tried the real thing. If you could give me an excuse to get the Eve Lom stuff I'd be v. grateful. Ta

glitterfairy · 03/05/2004 14:31

EArlybird am devestated as i thought i had found a new way of curbing the desire to eat chocolate concentrate on my skin care regime. Never mind I can always put cream on my hands and put them in washing up gloves and do washing up in order to prevent my bad chocolate addiction

Earlybird · 03/05/2004 17:05

Tamum - haven't tried the Boots version, but shall look for it next time I'm in one of their shops. Regarding cost - in the past I have even asked for the Eve Lom cleanser as a gift on my birthday/Christmas lists. Saves my mum and sisters from getting me another dodgy jumper, pair of earrings, or scented candle.....

Glitterfairy - can't help you with the chocolate cravings. I have my own addiction to chocolate, which is very powerful. Somehow nothing else can substitute. But, let me know if you find anything to curb the impulse to cram - I must confess to even brushing my teeth so that toothpaste taste would render chocolate less yummy. How sad is that???

Branster · 03/05/2004 17:49

i agree, eve loom cleanser is fantastic. i actually use it every evening. as regards cost, i would say it's not that much if you consider a small jar should last you for a year. good idea to ask for it as a present!
going back to the actual routine: am wash face with coldish tap water and leave to dry, then use an antiageing moisturiser (i change them all the time Clarins, Olay,L'oreal, clinique, Dior etc), plus eye cream (very little of this as they're usually quite rich). Evening i use the eve loom cleanser, then eye cream, pure vit E oil on my lips if they feel a bit dry and i use either an antiageing night time moistureser or the fantasting self tanning moisturiser from Clarins (one of the best products I've tried so far). sometimes i wish i could use more expensive moisturisers just to see if they work (the ones with caviar and diamond dust in them but can't really justify it, besides am not conviced they work. Has anyone read My friends' secrets by joan Collins (no literary value at all by the way). Jerry Hall said there she's using some night cream from Guerlain and apparently it's magic. So i might try that one day. Can't remember the name though.

Branster · 03/05/2004 17:51

forgot to say, sometimes i use arden's good morning skin serum if my skin looks a bit tired in the morning. very effective.

noddy5 · 03/05/2004 17:52

glad to see there are others as shallow as me!

Beccarollover · 03/05/2004 18:00

Clarins beauty flash balm is great for giving tired skin a boost in the morning.

very true becca!

Demented · 05/05/2004 14:56

OK you've shamed me all into buying some stuff in Boots today. I bought some Olay cleanser, toner and moisturiser (splashed out on the moisturiser it cost about £13, I am sitting here now horrified but it does have a sun protection thing in it).

I used to do all this stuff when I was a teenager and read all those girly magazines but now I can't remember, basically should I be doing this everyday? Should it be done in the morning? After shower? Should I splash my face with water in the shower and then cleanse, tone & moisturise after?

Going to have my eyebrows bruttally torn off tomorrow and my hair cut on Friday, DH won't recognise me!

ghengis · 05/05/2004 16:28

I went to get a new moisturiser the other day and was horrified when the Lancome woman quoted me £70!!! Well Modom, one gets what one pays for!!!!

ghengis · 05/05/2004 16:32

Should add that I'm currently using Tesco's bog standard moisturiser, about £1 a bottle!!!

LipstickMum · 05/05/2004 16:43

Reading the cleanse-tone-moisturise habits of others makes me think I have been neglecting my face for far too long. I use Dr Hauschka though, his products are lovely

Demented · 05/05/2004 19:25

My skin feels like a peach now.

sinclair · 06/05/2004 15:25

branster I think Ms Hall is talking about Midnight Secret. Not speaking from personal experience of course, just too much time spent reading heat magazine...Personally I'm a No7 gal, reckon that with the branded products you are paying for the research and advertising, wait 18 months and Boots will do a copy
