Which is the cheap wooden train set range that's compatible with Brio?

I'm sure I remember hearing that one of the more budget wooden trains / train set ranges is broadly interchangeable with Brio and the pieces fit together so that if you have both you can use them together as one big set... is that right? And if so, which range / make is it?

Thanks in advance...

tesco I think

jammydodger · 09/11/2006 18:37

it's the IKEA one, definitely. May be others, perhaps the ASDA one too.

bundle · 09/11/2006 18:39

the tesco one is better imo

advocateofthedevil · 09/11/2006 18:39

Tescos. Ikea less so as it has plastic connectors rather than wood and whilst they do fit it's not such a good fit as others. Tchibo has one coming up next week which is good value and compatible

ilovecaboose · 09/11/2006 18:40

ikea does one which I think combines with the brio one

holidaymum · 09/11/2006 18:41

Most do, we've had bits from elc, tesco, sainsburies all over. Never buy brio track its a con. Argos has often had a good set too.

Blandmum · 09/11/2006 18:47

tescos, elc, ikea.

funnypeculiar · 09/11/2006 19:28

Woolies do one too, but Tesco best imo as more extra fun bits to add on - stations, bridges etc ...

bundle · 09/11/2006 19:33

the ikea ones really aren't same, the joining bits are plastic and really don't fit.

Tommy · 09/11/2006 19:38

Tesco deffo the best one.
Asda do one as well but no so good IMO

Tesco. Got a huge brilliant set with really nice swing bridges and stuff for 30 quid.

But, get some IKEA, because you can pull out the plastic bits, so make pieces that have knobs at both ends or holes at both ends, which you sometimes need to complete the track. Otherwise you have to buy a stupid brio set of special bits that costs about 50 quid.

I think they all actually fit together. Brio is a huge con.

Tchibo are doing a wooden train set next week
