GHD's

There are no others that can compare. Mega £££ but worth every penny

clairemow · 08/11/2006 09:59

Agree with j&rsmummy - definitely get GHD - if you do a google search on the web, you can find them for a bit cheaper than in the shops, but it'll still set you back about £80... but they are the ones hairdressers use, and will last ages.

Skyler · 08/11/2006 10:03

Sorry, has to be GHD's.

saythatagain · 08/11/2006 11:11

Someone did a thread a while ago and mentioned another brand as good as GHD's but alot cheaper. Something like UKhairdressers......or something! I do remember they cost £49 though. HTH

xena · 08/11/2006 11:13

But they won't last as long as ghd's mine are 3 years old and still work perfectly

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 08/11/2006 11:17

Thing is, no good saying 'it has to be GHDs' if you just don't have a spare 100 quid lying around to spend on something so decadent!! Are us poorer people supposed to have bad hair day in and day out?

I currently have some TRESemme ceramics about £30 from Argos which are pretty good.

Prolectrix are pretty good as well. I used to pay about £20 for them (have got through lots in my time!) but I have seen them for £7 (and £5 in the sale!) in Ethel Austins recently!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 08/11/2006 11:18

Worth a look

holidaymum · 08/11/2006 11:22

ukh ones ARE as good as ghd! Was really surprised as a didnt believe it but have tested mine with lots of ghd users and its true! £49 from ukhairdressers.com

theflumpsmum · 08/11/2006 11:27

I have the Mark Hill ones from Boots got them for Xmas last year and they're great...have varying heat settings upto 200 degrees.
I've used my mates GHD's and think mine are almost as good.My mates hair is natural corkscrew curls and my straightners work as well on her hair as the GHD's.

I know Boots did have a deal going on the Mark Hill cordless ones ,selling them for nearly half price, around £50.00 if I remember correctly, was only a couple of weeks ago so offer may still be on.

saythatagain · 08/11/2006 12:01

I went to school with Mark Hill.....of absolute no help but thought I'd mention it !

Skyler · 08/11/2006 14:59

What about asking for them for Xmas as a joint present. I don't have £70 spare either so they were my 30th birthday present from my dh....and yes I had crap hair till then

Slight highkack - DD who is nearly 12 has compiled a Christmas list full of the most inappropriate things (mini fridge for bedroom and the like). Straighteners are on it too. She has wavy hair and hates it. Would you let a 12 year old straighten her hair every day? I am very unsure - will it kill her hair and will she burn the house down??

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 08/11/2006 17:31

How about a compromise Sherbert.. she only straightens at weekends/for special occasions/outings. They do ruin your hair it has to be said. There is no denying the damage they do. And if I was you I would ask her to use them downstairs with an adult present because they do get very hot.. it's easy to have an accident/put them down for a second and forget them.

I am always singing my ear lobes and don't usually realise I have done it until later! I thought I was being abducted and experimented on by aliens until I realised it was my straighters doing it!
