Food query

I have been making my 7 months old sons food for the past month and using normal stock cubes. I then realised that he shouldnt be having these as they contain too much salt.
I made my own stock however its a very long winded affair to produce enough stock for one meal. Does anyone know of stock cubes that are suitable for babies?

Yes - Kallo do some low salt stock cubes, although annoyingly I've only ever found them in Holland and Barrett, not in the supermarket with the other Kallo stock cubes (we use Kallo anyway as dh is wheat intolerant).

I used to make stock simply by saving the veg water every time I boiled veg, then boiling the next day's veg in that water. after a few days, you have vegetable stock.

but surely all stock is a bit of a palaver? have you tried just using water in his sauces etc? If he has to have stock then I'd use kallo stock (which has less salt in), but use tiny amounts of it.

As Senora I usually just use water and herbs / pepper etc.
Marigold do a no-salt boullion powder - think I've seen it in Sainsbury's but if not Waitrose definitely have it.

think i bought kallo one in tescos

but should add I use the marigold one, which you can buy in sainsburys. The good thing about that one is that it's not cubes so it's easier measure out as much as you want on the tip of a teaspoon.

I have used Marigold no salt bouillon powder too, got it in Sainsbury's - the good thing about the powder is you can just add a little bit rather than using a cube

Just looking on tesco online and they have Marigold Low Salt, do you think this would be ok to use?

Don't see why not

Personally I think just water and a pinch of mixed herbs is fine for baby food at this age. Then move onto the low salt stock when they are joining in with the family food.
