ds1 and ds2 (11 and 7) have asked for them for christmas. i am really loathing the idea of more games consoles as ds2 already has an xbox and i limit that to an our day with difficulty!

i want them to have a great christmas and i also have no idea of any alternative they may like.

so, what is your experience? have your kids been glued to them, leaving their other toys redundant?

My DS (aged 9) bought himself one after saving up his pocket money for months. He has got a PS2, PSP (last Christmas), Gameboy and Gamecube. Since purchasing the Nintendo DS it has become his favourite. Because the Nintendo DS plays Gameboy games, his Gameboy has now become defunct. I think it was well worth the money (although he paid for it himself). The only trouble is now that, for Christmas, he would likes games for the PS2, PSP and Nintendo.

My ds and dd (7 and 8 years old) have just got Nintendo ds each, about a month ago, they got the nintendog each to go with them and they don't play with anything else really. When they come in from school they put it on for a while to relax and after homework and going out to play they put it on again. If they had stopped going out to play and refused to switch off to do homework I would have to limit their time but up to now they just really love it but are using it within limit. Ds saved up and has bought a new game from Gameboy advance and when I try to play I can't keep up , it's too quick for me!
I'm pleased in a way because now at xmas they can ask for a few games and as they know how expensive they are they will accept not getting piles of other stuff, I mean most kids including mine have got so many toys and junk in their rooms that I was dreading finding more storage for more toys!
