I am looking at buying a Peugoet 3008 but the model I like doesn't come with a spare wheel, just a puncture repair kit.
would I be mad to buy this model?

How many times have you had a puncture?

My car has no spare. It came with run flats but now has normal tyres and a repair kit. I had a blow out after clipping a kerb - called the recovery people

It's arguable if you're mad to consider a Peugeot Grin
But as others have said, the spare wheel is no longer a standard, I haven't had a car with one for years.

A spare wheel is useful if you have damage to a wheel large enough that a repair kit isn't enough yet small enough that there hasn't been damage to the hub or suspension, that it happens somewhere that it's safe to change the wheel yourself, that you are physically strong enough to undo the wheel bolts, that you are physically strong enough to lift the failed wheel off the hub and, more significantly, offer up the spare wheel and hold it in place while you get the first couple of bolts in, that you are physically strong enough to torque the bolts to a safe level and know what it is and that, once you have finished, the spare wheel isn't flat anyway.

The puncture repair kits are safe and effective for a large proportion of suddenly flat tyres which are, let's face it, a once a decade event anyway (I last changed a tyre at the roadside fifteen years and 300K miles ago). The rest, you're going to call the recovery people anyway. In exchange for that you get more space in the boot and a bit of extra fuel consumption because of the weight that's saved. Spare wheels made sense when tyres had tubes and punctured every Wednesday. Today? They're pretty much pointless.
