Ergo baby carrier owners - HELP NEEDED

After some recommendations from here and much deliberation my Ergo new generation baby carrier arrived this morning.

I just can't figure our how to get my DS in. Its for the back carrier , as at 7 months and around 10kg he is too big for the front one. I tried to follow the instructions, but not being a circus contortionist I found it impossible to manoeuvre rookiebabies foot round, then put him on my back, without him falling out.

Help please, is there another way to do it ? Should I go for the side option instead, which also looks pretty complicated ????

rookie mum, not sure but isn't he a bit too young for a back carry? please check.

i owuld put the thing on only around the waist (hips really) then bring the body of the ergo up around the baby and thirdly put my arms into the arm straps.

i still front carry my dd at 11.5 kilos and 80 cm tall (toddler). i only put it round my waist first then put her to straddle me and bring the front up and then put the shoulder straps on. the small black fastening that clips the two shoulder straps together need to be high up on the shoulder straps before you start. you must get the waist band on the hips rather than waist as you want the weight of your baby balanced on your hips so his weight is channeled down into your legs. otherwise it will pull your lower back out. (great thigh workout after walking around the shopping centre for 2 hrs this way.)

I hired one for two weeks from Big Mama Slings - really glad I did as ds just winged and winged every time he was put in it.

Borrowed a friends framed carrier and he was happy as larry. Glad I rented after all..

BUT Ergo was much more comfy for me to wear - sods law isn't it!

Hi there, mamama it was the side position I was talking about so if anyone knows how to successfully use the side position then do let me know.
I think he is ok to use the backpack at 7mths, it says on the literature that the front carrier should be used up to 6mths and the side or back thereafter, also he is not a light baby so front is ok but not brill.

Just wanted to say I have successfully managed the front carrying position now and am slowly becoming an ergo convert. Its a bit trickier than the baby bjorn to get him in but so much comfier once he is there for both of us.

Still no joy with the side position, any tips anyone ?

hi everyone
i am thinking of getting an ergo as dd is outgrowing the baby bjorn plus i really want to have her at the back so i can do some work while she is strapped in! I will be going back to the UK in december (am now overseas) where i shall be able to get one. My in laws are in silverstone, northants - do you know a shop nearby or should i mail order it? and if so which online co would you recommend? thanks loads

I'd recommend that you rented it for a couple of weeks first just to see if its for you.

I'm still not convinced that it is the carrier for me since I have tried it on a few longer walks.

There is a link for bigmamaslings in this thread which does hiring.
