Find me a car

Here are my specifications:

  • Automatic transmission
  • Fits 3 child car seats, two in the back and one in front. Ideally isofix for all 3 but if not, at least the back two (will have newborn twins in there.
  • 5 door
  • Easy to find second hand for around £2k or less

Is this completely unobtainable?

DP has been very pleased with her Toyota Corolla. Being an unstylish family car it was inexpensive to buy used, and has been supremely reliable. Zinc-plated body does not rust. Much better than the Peugeot 206 in every way. We have not been interested in child seats for quite some time so don't know about that and can't find a Which report.

Due to low cost they are sometimes bought by doting parents for their teens, you would do better to try to find one owned by an older driver who has had it for some years.

Given reasonable care, our previous Toyota is still being driven around by the person I sold it to, it is now 18 years old.

Have found it on "Which" now.

"The Toyota Corolla finally bowed out of the UK market in 2006. The last model, sold between 2002 and 2006, offered the same understated and uncomplicated dependability that had made previous generations of Corolla so popular and successful."

The auto box seems quite rare.

My mum has an automatic ford focus with two car seats in rear -assume one could go in front, too. She has isofix, too. Not sure of scans hand prices.

Haggisfish · 08/04/2015 20:27

I don't think you could get isofix fittings in the front-they work in the back because the back seats are screwed into the chassis and the isofix screws into the chassis as well. Front seats aren't like that. I could be wrong though.

Cheeseandwinegirl · 08/04/2015 23:09

Isofix can be in the front seats as well as back, and are usually on all seats is is installed.

For 2k I think you might be struggling with isofix and auto. That being said it isn't impossible!

Quick search on autotrader (made up postcode so not mine)gives this...

www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/postcode/w127tq/radius/1500/keywords/isofix/transmission/automatic/price-to/2000/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew

You need to be at the high end of your budget, but something like a ford or vauxhall should be fine.

Totally do-able. Good luck :-)

Haggisfish · 08/04/2015 23:25

Interesting-I didn't know that about isofix! Thanks for asking op!

Hi, you might like to try this. An independent trader who would be able to help you. He's a family member and helped me buy two cars on a limited budget. goo.gl/fXv7ki

Second hand Renault scenic, I got three baby seats in the back of mine.
Seats fold down ,can be used as a midi van. Make sure no previous engine management issues, cracking car; go for diesel.

ChilliAndMint · 13/04/2015 21:19

Why auto are you disabled or do you have an auto only licence?

Haggisfish · 13/04/2015 21:44

Lots of people just find them easier to drive-apparently more and more learners are opting for auto only!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 14/04/2015 07:00

I don't have a licence yet. I have had over two years of lessons in total (one lot when I was 17 and one out when I was 28) and I still can't stop without stalling in a manual. If I don't learn in an automatic, I'm never going to learn.
