Car Seat Strap Clip

I'm looking for a clip that stops a child pulling their arms out of the straps of their car seat. Sure I've seen one before but can't seem to find where I initially saw it. Any ideas?

dunno - but you should know that according to EU laws these are illegal. NOt gonna say any more on the point.

Blackduck · 31/10/2006 17:54

Why are they illegal?
JB - do you mean 'HugIt'?

here . Doesn't work with a lot of car seats though.

I used to have something that stated the law exactly - but the oultine is that you cannot put any additional strap on a child's carseat because you have to be able to undo the straps and release the child with one button (in case of an accident).

THey are legal in AMerica and this is where most of them come from.

Just warning you - its up to you whether you use one or not.

I'd like to see the exact wording! It can be catch 22 as a child incorrectly restrained (ie out of their straps) will land you with a fine. HugIt is actually British, not US.

That's pretty much what I'm looking for although must just check that my straps aren't too wide for it. Understand the point about getting it off in an emergency, but feel it's more important that DD is safely restrained on a daily basis. Apparently if you have an accident when their top straps aren't securing the arms, the child can fly straight out of the seat.

Sunday Times Motoring Section 23rd July 2006.
In response to a question about these straps/

"American law allows a connecting strap between the shoulder harnesses but European Union Legislation does not. It states that a adult must be able to release a child from a safety seat in a single action Adding a shoulder harness connector would require two."

It goes on to saw that anti-tampering devices (those that cover the buckle) are also not recommended by the CAPT (child prevention trust) or RoSPA (Royal society for the prevention of accidents) as they can affect how a seat works in accidents. The paper suggested visiting wwwchildcarseats.org.uk for tips about how to prevent these problems.

HTH

TO be honest I'm divided about which is more dangerous - that or having a child hanging half out a car seat. But there you go.

Interesting - can't win either way...thou' to be fair ds can get Hugit off...

cjmummy · 31/10/2006 18:36

I have had the same problem with my ds in the last couple of weeks ... and I decided that a 20 month old getting out of his car seat at high speed on the middle of the M25 five times in a row was far more dangerous than using a separate constraint. I have bought a hugit and so far it is working!
