Looking for the perfect lightweight buggy/pram

Driving myself around the bend, and have even started dreaming about prams!

Need:

Lightweight (I have bad back and recent stomach surgery)
Easy to fold into boot (unlikely to use public transport)
Robust enough to walk around gardens etc but not cross country

Would like:

Rear-facing option for newborn
Trendy and cute (because I'm shallow!)

Not TOO expensive!

Considered Quinny Zapp, but reports of instability and fact that can't recline put me off for now. Maybe when baby older.

Narrowed it down to:

Micralite with carry cot
Mothercare Citilite (doesn't rear face but good value)
Combi I-Thru stroller (Not seen that mentioned on MN, but I live in Singapore and apparently you can get them here)

Any comments on those?

Thanks in advance

We used the Mamas and Papas P3 pramette for the same reasons - was one of the lightest on the market, folds and fits into boot of my small car (corsa), or folds up quite thin to stand in the hallway of the house.

It does face towards you in pram mode for new born, but then turns into an outward facing pushchair.

Quite nice looking too but not a 3-wheeler. I ordered on line and it came the next day.

Hope this helps.

We have the Micralite and it has been brilliant.

It is light, it is compact, easy to maneuver. Not expensive at all, we pai £300 for the travel system (incl. car seat + all accesories). The carry cot doubled as a bed, so saved money on moses basket too.
It also looks cool - I often get stopped on the street to ask me where I got it.

Disadvantages:

Ds outgrew the carry cot at about 3.5 months, but he is a big baby (90th centile)
The buggu only has 2 positions and does not lie flat but he happilu sleeps in it anyway.

I didn't really do any research, and bought the Graco Tour Deluxe Travel system, as it was going cheap (£200 at babies R us for absolutely everything). It's served us well, but takes up a lot of space when folded, and occupies the entire boot in my Citroen C3. Where I live, Quinny Buzz system (with Maxi Cosi car seat) seems really popular. If I knew better, I'd probably have gone for a Quinny, for all the travel system accessories that a newborn needs, as well as looking really trendy and cute plus manoeuvers well. Apparently the Combi is good too - folds up well - my cousin uses it in the States.

Micralite gets my vote!

Bumbleweed - I have just ordered a M&P pramette. You can recommend then?

angmarie · 01/11/2006 20:17

we have a micralite and it is brill especially with the large back tyres is good for uneven roads it is like a 4x4 offf road car but light weight.

i;d say get a pramette. i just got pramette covers for my A3 frame, and although i wont be having another baby for a while, it looks good and made me very broody (i just liked the fabric on it).

I had a Citilite as my car pushchair, and it was ok but not great for big toddlers as it's quite narrow. Also not particularly good over very rough or soft ground as the wheels are very small. On the other hand, ds found it comfortable and use to fall asleep easily in it, it has a huge basket, you can push one-handed as it has a single handle, it's very stable and doesn't tip over backwards easily.

I would say Citilite everytime. Ours is still going strong 2 and a half years on and was only £90
