My Face:- Are day cream and night cream really different?

Okay, here we go, Before I had ds I ALWAYS wore my make-up, clease tone and moisturised every night, looked fantastic (Yes I did, honest). And it was all lovely Estee Lauder stuff.

When ds came along I became very mumsy, could never get around to make-up, did the cleanse, tone stuff when I had the energy, you know how it is.

Last year I totally neglected myself, and have just realised I look like sh*t. So have looked at investing in new creams etc, but really can't afford EL again. Body-shop stuff is nice, but do I really need both day cream and night cream? can't I use the same stuff twice a day? Anyone out there know for sure.

Oh, BTW we're talking about "More mature" skin here

Have you tried the Oil of Olay stuff - to reverse the 7 signs of aging" - I think it is great abd that is coming form a expensive face cream junkie before the DD's....
Night cream is richer, but to be honest I've even used night cream during the day, but I have got dryish skin...

Neal's Yard Frankincense Nourishing Cream
It's the business, day or night for the 'more mature' slightly crispy lady IMO

motherinferior · 22/04/2004 13:27

Night cream won't have the SPFs in it that your day moisturiser should have.

Everyone on here praised the Oil of Olay stuff so much I started using it, and think it's fab too.

Kayleigh · 22/04/2004 13:30

I use the Oil of Olay "Regenerist" cream day and night. And I put a dab of eye stuff on at night too.

Another OO fan here (hey, that's my initials).

But I am on Asda own at the mo but will be back with OO when it runs out.

eddm · 22/04/2004 13:38

Yeah but frankly unless you reapply your moisturiser all day I doubt SPFs are much use, really, and not sure whether the factor is high enough even if you did. Judging by all the products I've tested (for day job) would imagine manufacturers just trying to get us to spend more by buying two different creams. Dermatologists say we might as well save our money and use bargain-basement stuff like Nivea or even Vaseline (I think those are male dermatologists though who have clearly never thought through the implications of trying to put make up on top of Vaseline). The only ingredient in anti-wrinkle moisturiser for which there is some evidence is retinol, a form of Vitamin A. But you can't use this when you are p/g as you may overload your liver. Otherwise face creams are just nice stuff to temporarily make your skin softer but won't actually do anything exciting or long term.

eddm How depressing I look young for my age (honestly, people are always saying that!) and I have used anti-ageing stuff for years - I am that worried that I won't got back to 'normal' creams!! Even if they are cheaper I thought it was them that gave me the great unlined skin, now you are telling me it is all hype I have no excuse to buy

As it is I use Boots version of OO or OO total effects. I also use Clinique Turnaround cream if I feel I am looking a bit 'grey'. I use ASDA face scrub or Clinique facial soap - a right old mixture!! And I am the worlds worst at taking makeup off before bed - I don't

Still I would buy the Boots cream again (about £10 for day moisturiser) and the Turnaround stuff as it seems to work wonders for me. Clinique soap just lasts forever, but I am not a massive fan. and the ASDA scrub is fab and v v cheap.

noddy5 · 22/04/2004 14:38

I use liz earle very natural and does seem to lift that grey look. Its not very expensive but feels like luxury every time I use it

maomao · 22/04/2004 14:41

Another OO fan, as well as a fan of Clinique's Turnaround cream.

Welshmum · 22/04/2004 14:49

This is a bit of sucking eggs comment but I find that drinking loads of water really does make a difference. Esp for more mature ladies.....

kiwisbird · 22/04/2004 15:22

i've trie everything and still look like shi*!
aaarrghh talk about combo skin, with little drier patches that only show up after you put foundation on, you name it I've tried it, got the bill to prove it!

Easy · 22/04/2004 21:17

Crunchie
I read an article ages ago the said it didn't matter if you don't take off your make-up at night, in fact the foundation seems to offer some extra moisture to the skin. That must be your secret.
