Golf match fog lights

I didn't get a manual with my car and my 2 year old has switched on my fog lights. Does anyone know how to turn them off?! Thanks!

Try pushing the dial in and twisting it to the left.. Anti clockwise at the same time.

mytimewillcome · 02/02/2015 19:45

Hi methe, that doesn't seem to work it just switches the lights off.

Have you pushed it in? On dh's car there's buttons next to the dial I guess you don't have those?

This is the sum total of my VAG knowledge, sorry.

Have a look in the handbook?

mytimewillcome · 02/02/2015 20:22

It didn't come with a handbook and to buy one costs £50Shock

Just look for a button with the fog light symbol. It really concerns me that we have to share the roads with people who don't even understand the controls of their car. What would you do if you found yourself in thick fog and needed to switch the rear fog light on? If you genuinely cannot work this out for yourself then you really need to consider whether you're safe to be behind the wheel.

mytimewillcome · 03/02/2015 11:25

Do you actually think I haven't looked for the button with the fog light symbol on?! Why exactly do you think I posted on here? I don't need a telling off thanks just an answer and you obviously don't have one. I didn't realise that aibu posters strayed on here. I thought it was a bit nicer. And I don't need you telling me whether or not I should be behind the wheel. I've been driving for over 20 years and regard myself as a safe driver. Angry

There really was no need to be that rude richthe

Mytime You're not the only one with that issue, some ideas on here (though not sure what mark golf you have, this is mk6 approx 2012)

Thanks etihad. I've got an older golf but a previous poster said the same and it doesn't seem to work. I'm going to email the garage a pic and get them to tell me! Thanks to the helpful posters.

Harsh maybe, but if you don't know how to use one of the basic safety features of your car then you aren't a safe driver, you're a danger to other road users. You should be able to jump into any car and find the foglight switch(es) pretty much straight away. As for answering the question it would help if you actually specified which generation of Golf you have, the Match part is irrelevant. You might as well have asked where the foglight switch is in a red Golf. There are 7 generations of Golf - the year of manufacture would probably get you an answer.

Optimist1 · 04/02/2015 10:30

Call in to a VW garage and they'll show you how to do it.

And totally reinforce the stereotype of women drivers. Assuming you have a Golf from mk3 onwards the foglights are switched on by pulling the round light switch towards you. Once for front fogs and twice for front and rear or just once for rear if front fogs aren't fitted.

mytimewillcome · 04/02/2015 11:26

It doesnt reinforce the idea of women drivers actually. I am just a driver who is asking a question about a car who happens to be female. You are reinforcing the stereotype of a female driver. This is the first golf I've owned having previously owned a different make of car before and if people didn't keep the handbooks to sell on eBay then my life would be alot easier. And lesson learned. Never ask a question about cars on this forum!

Really it's not that hard. Have you managed it yet?

WMittens · 04/02/2015 19:41

and if people didn't keep the handbooks to sell on eBay then my life would be alot easier.

If the owners are keeping them to sell on eBay, have you tried buying one from eBay?

There are a fair few under £12, and plenty with starting bids of 99p.

Rich is right, you should make it your business that you know how to operate a 1.4 tonne lump of metal that can legally move at up to 70mph and maybe 120mph or more outright. Given the usual "think of the children" reactions, even more so that you carry a 2 year old in it.

Methe · 04/02/2015 19:47

I'm pretty sure that the way I advised the op in the first reply was the correct way.

Maybe the ops child has broken it.

bonzo77 · 04/02/2015 19:51

I have a 2003 golf match. The fog lights go on by pulling, and off by pushing back in, the dial that operates the head lights. A light comes on on the dash board to indicate that the are on or off.

Assuming you mean the fog lights and not the full beams though...

RetroImp · 09/02/2015 14:59

Got to agree with Rich. Maybe you should spend more time, familiarising yourself with your car, use common sense as to actually give the right model if you ask for specific advise and also maybe watch your kid fiddling with the car controls more.... shakes head

That is of course possible and if so I would offer my sincere apologies to the OP
