How old does DS need to be to go in a cabin bed?

Ds is almost 21months at the moment and we are thinking that early next year (when he is 2yrs) we will put him in a bed (mainly to get rid of that bloomin cot and get some more storage in his room. We really want to get a cabin bed so that he can have storage underneath - we really like the ones with a slide to get down(!) and they're not THAT expensive. I'm worried though that he's too young. We'd obviously get one with a built in safety rail and tuck in all his bedding (he's a very still sleeper though, unlike dd). Anyone got and good/bad experiences with cabin beds?

Don't have any direct experience either way, but noticed that Argos say that their cabin beds are 'not suitable under the age of 3' but 'depending on development and size of child'.

We have Flexa beds which ds has had since about 2 1/4 . You can start it off as a low bed with rails but then raise it up adding ladders, slides etc which we did at 4. dd was a nightmare climbing on it as soobn as she could and sprained her ankle coming down even at 4. Hers is still at a low level as she likes to climb over the sides ! Most normal midi cabin beds are from 3 or higher ones from 6.

my dd1 went into a Flexa bed w. slide at just over 2 with no problems at all.
Ds (who is nearly 3) is still at a low level even though I have all the parts, because he is such a daredevil and climbs over the sides etc. - not something dd1 would have ever done. I think it really depends on whether you can trust them to be reasonably sensible.

Flexa beds sound like a great idea. The website is a bit short on pics of them though (lots of diagram type pics!) anywhere else I can see them?

Thanks! They look great but they are expensive. What is the quality like?

Good quality . ds' has survived 3 housemoves so far !

There is one from Ikea that starts off as a low bed and turns upside down into a cabin bed. It's pretty cheap, ds loves his.

MFI have cheap ones also with slides. Don't know how to do links, so google.

Thank you all! I'm going to investigate a bit further, no stories about cracked heads after falling out of them then...how old were your children when they went into theirs?
