There are some that you put fuel in (like water, washing up liguid etc) and see which product makes it go faster.
Got our boys one each at the weekend as they are half price in toys r us.
The boys love them 7 and 3.5

Some hot wheels sets are huge, we went for micro machine sets instead , local toy shop has sets reduced all the time.

Skribble · 21/10/2006 23:15

I have wondered about how playable the sets are, most seem to involve setting them up then swishing the cars around as fast as you can. I wouldn't bother with the big sets and go for cars, roadways and garages.

I was not impressed by them to be honest, tricky to put together and very flimsy so fell apart quickly.

winniewoo · 22/10/2006 09:19

Thanks for all the replies. Yes..I think judging by the photos they do look huge and TBH probably a ten min hit wonder before I tidy it away as we don't have that much space..will have a look at the micro machines.

My DS is mad on Hot Wheels. Agree with others who said the sets can be really big, take ages to put together and not very hard wearing (currently trying to persude him he does not really want to ask father christmas for the last race set). You can buy the hot wheels cars for 86p each from ASDA. The Micro Madnetics are good though - I think Argos might be doing a good offer on them at the moment.

SoupDragon · 22/10/2006 10:23

Personally I think they're sh*te. They take ages to put together, are flimsy and fall apart easily and therefore don't get played with. DS1 was desperate for the T Rex one one year, I bought it for christmas, it proved too difficult to build correctly and has never been finished or played with.

winniewoo · 22/10/2006 15:21

Thanks so much for all this! So...now..help me out??!! I take it the micro machines and the micro madnetics are different sets. Any brilliant ones your boys can't live without?? TIA

Thanks mellowma..loving all this first hand info? Think I have now gone off the big hot wheels..have you any preference with micro machines and micro madnetics..off to look at the scaletrix set now.....

Mellowma..do you mean the 'First scaletrix set" or just a small version of the grown up one??
DS 6 and 4.

I was asking about the micro scalextric on another thread. It seems to be a smaller version of scalextric (we have got limited space). The Entertainer are doing a Batman micro scalextric for £14.95 , also woolworths have some sets. I think they look good and am def going to get ds one.
