help needed for lolling head in car seat...
Heathcliffscathy · 21/04/2004 13:06
unfortunately my nearly 6 month old ds is in the car for two 2.5 hour journeys every week. this is fine in respect of the fact that we go when it is sleep time (usually after bedtime routine) and he sleeps almost as soon as in the car seat. however, last week i sat in the back with him and realised that his head really lolls to one side when he is asleep. we have a maxicosi citi rear facing seat and are thinking about getting a new seat. any advice re how to best support his head? he is too big for the little baby support that comes with the seat. any recommendations for really comfortable car seats for older babies as our next buy. it broke my heart seeing him lolling and can't be good for his neck (altho doesn't seem to stop him from sleeping ) so any immediate fixes to that problem? please don't say don't take him in the car, it's not really an option. thanks people.

we bought one of those c shaped thingys from mothercare which goes round the babys neck and provides a support plus stops the lolling. If i can find a picture ofone i will do a link

tbh wouldn't rush to put him in next stage seat/forward facing at that age especially if he is going to sleep a lot. Many of the newer seats have integral adjustable head supports as part of the additional side impact protection which may help. However if you can keep him in his present seat with a neck support then probably safer.
katzguk · 21/04/2004 13:22
or this one perhaps a little more expensive but john lewis are a big store

We got one in ToysRUs - it was a 2 headed giraffe with no body. Once you've got round the weirdness of it..it was very useful (and cheap!)

Found them here toysrus neck supports , what a great invention & theyre lovely too. I get soo upset seeing dd's head flop forwards
Heathcliffscathy · 21/04/2004 13:39
you are all angels. i prefer the plainer ones (aren't the others a bit stimulating iykwim?). but they say newborn support (this is the toysrus ones) will they be ok for a six month old? just to get this straight, when he is awake he can hold his head fine, it's just when he falls asleep...thanks all of you for advice.
katzguk · 21/04/2004 13:46

Bogwoppit · 21/04/2004 13:57

katierocket · 21/04/2004 13:59
when you do get a new seat go for one that partially reclines. we have a britax one and it's great.
Heathcliffscathy · 21/04/2004 13:59
one last question, what is the difference between the toysrus ones, why are some more expensive???
