Anyone got either a Synchrony Digital at home or a Titanium?
Apparently they are quite similar models and I just wondered if anyone had experience good or bad of either before I splash out big time

This site is quite useful, they have reviews of the two machines you mention here , and here .

They have a discussion forum, it may be worth asking for more detailed experiences.

We have a commercial coffee machine at home (an Electra) and it is fantastic, however my DH is slightly nuts and buys green beans, roasts them and grinds them himself.

We splashed out and bought the Titanium this year. We got it as dh likes expresso - I actually prefer a decent filetr coffee! He has now decided the coffee it makes is horrible - so will no longer drink it. I think the issue is that unlike manual expresso machines you cannot change the pressure used to produce a cup of coffee - to make coffee stronger you have to increase the quantity of coffee used - so what you end up is a gritty, strong cup of coffee. I don't mind the coffe made as much as dh - but it is a lot of money to spend to get an average cup of coffee!
Good thing is that you can get a cup whenever you want one - takes only a minute to warm up so faster than using a manual machine.
Hope tat helps!

apprently they are all crap-ish

apart from the simplest one - the one that just makes coffee and froths milk, about £200 i think

My DH could bore for Britain about this but he would say that you really need to be, at least, grinding your own beans (he has a would recommend a Mazzer grinder, it's what the cafes use) as the grind needed changes with the air pressure etc.

Loads and loads of riviting information on CoffeeGeek, if you think you can stand it!

Thanks for your comments everyone. Will go have a look at that site. I love cappucino and DH espresso so thought it would be fine for both of us, quick and simple and easy. But if the coffee is crap then its a waste of money I agree. Thought gaggia were supposed to be top of the range

I have the one pmtEnid has mentioned it is great

flowertot · 17/10/2006 16:48

Do you know what model it is? Maybe we are better going for the simpler one then? Certainly cheaper

flowertot have you thought about a pod machine? These are apparently easier to use to get consistent good results. this machine seems to get good reviews for use with pods and also looks gorgeous, although IMO not so great in the green of the picture.

MrsSpoon · 17/10/2006 20:58

Can also personally recommend this machine as we used to have one. The reviewer here is using pods seems very pleased.

The Gaggia Cubika is a fraction of the price and is a fab coffee machine. I've had mine for around three years and it makes wonderful coffee (DH drinks espresso, I want cappucino). I had problems with it when it was nearly two years old, and had lost the original receipt so had no proof of purchase, but when I phoned Gaggia they picked it up, repaired it and delivered it back at no cost. I would highly recommend it.

Thanks sunnydelight. I will go and have a look at that model. The other one did seem somewhat expensive!
