i've got the braun one. bought it because I couldn't get to grip with any of the non-digital thermometers. use it regularly. it was a gift but probably would have bought this one.

though when go to gps with persistent high temps - they never seem too bothered when i tell them how high temps are.

it gives me peace of mind and a clearer record that paracetmol is bringing a temp down

We've got one. From Boots I think. £30 ? I imagine they're all of a muchness. Maybe check on the box the claimed accuracy ?

you can buy my Braun one for the price of a cheap one; we've only used it twice in 3 years!

Joceybean · 15/10/2006 21:00

Sounds like Braun is the way to go, thankyou. We did buy one you swiped (for want of a better word) over forehead and it was rubbish. I like the idea that you can put it in ear for one second and get a reading.

Jocey was the swipe one super-expensive / pro medical gear or just a 'regular priced' one ?

Joceybean · 15/10/2006 21:17

At the time it was quite a new concept, I think. It came from somewhere like Argos and was about £40, about six years ago. You had to go from middle of forehead and around temple at the right speed. Needless to say we did not get much cooperation from dd to stay still while we faffed around with it. Wished we had got an ear one to start with.

LOL - I'm just wondering about a forehead one as it can be hard to hold them still for 5 seconds when they're ill LOL !

Joceybean · 15/10/2006 21:28

Do the ear ones not work in one second then? I was hoping to creep up behind said child and do a sneaky one before they realised.

It is fast, but I think it takes about 1 second for the thingy elemt to reset / heat up or sommit, then maybe 2 - 3 seconds to read.... myabe my dd is extra wriggly, LOL.

Do you have to read it while its in their ear then? I was hoping it would beep then you can look at it after.

Our one you need to hold in whilst a light flashes a few times and a beep sounds. Then you can withdraw it and read temp on the display.

Joceybean · 15/10/2006 21:58

Thanks hub2dee still sounds better than the one we have at the moment.
