Is there such a thing as a real tool kit for boys - so that they can hammer in nails etc? DS, nearly 5, is desperate to build things so keen to encourage.

My boys did quite a lot of this sort of thing with their grandpa, my dad (sadly now deceased). My dad was firmly of the opinion that it was far better for them to use proper tools, under close supervison of course, than these 'toy real tools', which are often of questionable quality. Obviously a young child needs a smaller/lighter hammer, but there's no reason they can't use an 'adult' screwdriver, drill, chisel, plane, etc.

My ds has a Black n Decker tool kit from ELC. he's had it 2 years now and the batteries are STILL working. It has working drill etc with lots of different attachments. It was £10 and I think still is.

We then got him a cheap plastic tool box from asda for about a fiver and he loves it
