Looking for a mirror with a really wide frame in very dark wood - or if not wide then very dramatic in some way - ?

Something squarish preferably, rectangular is ok - a wall mirror to go above a basin - I have in mind something very big and dark and dramatic but can't find what I'm picturing ....

I have a large arch shaped mirror I dont use anymore that im thinking of selling, my mum bought it for me when i was living in a flat in a converted church cos it same shape as the windows but now im in a small 3 bed semi its not quite right really! Its very large, prob bout a metre high roughly with quite wide natural wood frame, its not dark wood but could easily be stained. Let me know if you're interested and I'll try and send you a picture and get you accurate measurements.

or like this?

I bought a very large wide framed mirror in Homebase recently. It is a rough textured wood and I stained it very dark. I also have it over a basin,.

How about this - very striking, but depends how 'splashy' it will get.

More here , too.

hiya franch - long time no speak, hope all is well !

If you have specific frame preferences, you might want a framer (as in a picture framing company) to make something bespoke ?

If you want very large, you could do worse than mirrored-plastic which is light but can be bought in 8ft X 4ft sheets. I have some and it looks just like mirrored glass.

franch · 15/10/2006 19:41

Hi all, thanks so much - I didn't expect so much interest in this! Pesha thanks for the offer - mirror sounds great but I'm hopeless at anything vaguely DIY - laziness mostly so would never get round to staining it. And thanks for the advice hub2dee (how are dee and the little one? ) - actually I think I might go for Jackie's 1st suggestion (the leather Argos one with the round mirror), or possibly the Debenhams one if I'm feeling less adventurous.

Thanks again everyone

(I take it the leather's not going to go mouldy in the damp bathroom ?)

We're all fine. Trying to teach dd to settle herself to sleep in the PM and failing miserably, but aside from that, we're all great. Pics if you fancy a nose here

franch, i think you are in sw4? if you go to ingo finke on battersea rise, they will custom make a mirror for you. tons of frames to choose from. we got our big mirror from there. pretty reasonably priced too.

franch · 17/10/2006 21:50

awww, thanks.

hub2dee · 18/10/2006 17:20

(just out of interest, if you can think of any good child photographers, or photographers who do a fair amount of work with children as well as other portraits etc., do post their names / links... I am always looking for contacts / inspiration / seeing what training might be useful etc.)

franch · 18/10/2006 17:36

We've used Tina Bolton twice - she's taken some beautiful shots of our two (and us ). David Handley is different entirely and one of the finest, I think - go to Jackie Gibbs and click on photographers. Both DDs are models and he's taken some of the best images of both of them (excluding DH's of course )

I've just looked through all the images in both of those links, franch. Thank you. Tina's work is lovely and calm and David's really captures a certain mood. Good suggestions indeed !
