Mothercare Comfi toilet training seat - Warning!

As ds got off the loo, he screamed, and his toilet seat fell sidelong into the loo. The top (padded) part of the seat is held onto the bottom (hard plastic) by 3 screws. On our seat the screwholes were too big, the screws did not grip and the seat parts twisted when ds got off. This left two sharp screws sticking up, one of which pierced his bum (not too deeply but enough for him to be quite upset about..and he is now only happy to use the potty not the toilet again).

Thought I'd warn anyone who has a similar seat to check how firmly the two parts are attached..Mine's going back to Mothercare as soon as I can.

It's this seat here

That is terrible, bluebear. Don't let them fob you off in the shop with just a refund, take a picture of the seat before you take it back and if you aren't happy with how it is dealt with in store write to Head Office. I'd say take a picture of ds's bottom too but maybe not, eh? Hope you manage to persuade him out of his Toilet Trauma

Have taken photos already (including one of ds's bum in a builder's bottom style (poking out of the top of his jeans..not rude in my opinion). I am a bit concerned that I might just get a refund and I would hate for any other child to have a similar incident (the screws are about 1 cm long and sharp - it could have been a lot worse)

Is there another body you could report it to...the office of fair trading, or something? Safety Standards council? (MN-ers?)

I would go to Mothercare first before Trading standards etc. Give them a chance to sort it out themselves. They should examine your seat, check with the manufacturer whether this is an isolated problem or not (make sure they will do this) and then they take a decision as to whether to do a product recall or not. I would just ask them to keep you fully informed so that you know they are doing this!! And I would expect a few Mothercare vouchers!!

and lucky your son wasn't hurt any worse....they should take it very seriously...

I had some plastic jelly shoes for ds1 he wore them all day and was moaning all day but of course he couldn't talk. When we took them of I couldn't belive it the front of his foot was a right mess.I went into the shop and complained and said that this was not good enough they had a flaw that is going to dig into the childs ankles they gave me my money back and didn't even say sorry.I even rang the head office to tell them and they couldn't give a monkeys.I just didn't want anyone elses child to be hurt. This was a few years ago so good luck.Let us know how you get on
