Does anyone use these ??

I wear glasses and don't really like how I look without them BUT am thinking of getting a pack of daily disposables so that at least I can wear them no nights out etc, cos I always feel less dressed up with my glasses on for some reason.

Anyone have them, and where do you get yours from ?

Boots, about £26 a month I think, delivered to the door.

absolutely fab

I've got them - they're great. Wear them probably 70% of the time. I went to Vision Express, and have a thing where they send me a load once a quarter. Very comfortable (when I first wore contact lenses, they were rigid gas permeable ones, so much more comfortable than those). Think they're these ones .

But do you have to buy some every month ?? See a months supply would last me ages and ages, so I don't want to have to buy a supply each month.

I get mine from specsavers as and when I need them but I also pay £10 per month for frequent replacement (3 pairs each 3 months). I use the daily disposables for holidays etc and they cost £24 for 30 pairs.

I suspect you can just buy the odd box here or there, but it may work out more expensive. Go to the optician and get them to check whether you're suitable for them, get your prescription, then (as long as you go back I think it's once a year for a checkup), you could maybe order them online somewhere (someone feel free to contradict me if this isn't a good idea....)

I use Focus Dailies - they're excellent. I remember the days of having to clean them every night etc and sterlising the pot. These are sooo easy and you just throw them away. i used to pre DS wear lens' all day every day but now it's just on nights out etc. I get mine from my local independant optician.

nutcracker · 12/10/2006 14:07

The amount of nights out and special occasions I go to, 30 would last me about 6mths LOL.

I'll pop into Boots next time i'm out and ask them.

Thanks all.

I have daily disposable (although I cant use them at the monent as I am preg and feel like rasor blades in my eyes!!). They are Acuview Moist and we buy them from Dolland and Aitcheson (sp?!). They are really reasonable and if you subscribe to the postal service you get 50% off frames and lenses which is great for me and my DH as it saves us a fortune!

You can get as many or as few as you want and I have reduced how many I am getting as I am not using them at the mo. Would def recomend them.

cryptmonkey · 12/10/2006 22:49

Nutcracker, I'm an optometrist and a lot of our daily disposable wearers are similar to you and get 30 pairs which last them a year! For infrequent wearers they are really the best option. Focus dailies are the most popular but personally I prefer One-Day-Acuvue Moist. I sometimes give people 2 lots to try, 5 pairs of Focus dailies and 5 pairs of the ODA Moist. What most patients report is that towards the end of a long day in dailies, the Acuvue Moist stay more comfortable than Focus dailies. They are more expensive though.

housemum · 12/10/2006 23:25

I have Acuvue dailies - brilliant. I did buy a box of Focus coloured ones (vanity!!) while I was at D&A (saves spelling it) but they are awful to take out - it feels like they have superglued themselves to your eyeballs.

I have the D&A monthly option but now I'm happy with them will be buying through Sainsbury's - check their website for details, but they work out cheaper, particularly if you can save up enough for a few months' worth at a time. You still get your aftercare checks through D&A, but obvously not the 50% discount, so I'm going to get a new pair of specs then switch!
