I need to buy presents for my nephew, but I'm not good at boy ideas, and they need to be light/small so my parents can take them on the plane when they visit...

Please help me (anything I can buy online would be a bonus, too).

I'd go for books. You can get some good value books from the Book People.

Things like those little scribble boards that you get in ELC with the wand attached (mine love it). ELC also have Thomas Tank mini aqaudraw boards that we used on the plane this year. ELC do lots of pocket money small things - might be silly stuff but they love that.

I wouldnt generally say a DVD but if he is abroad it might be good in that he doesnt get to see it normally. Or is that not the case?

Don't forget with DVDs to make sure you get the right region, or he won't be able to play it.

Puzzles (light and compact to pack!), simple games (especially if they live somewhere where English language stuff is hard to get or expensive), favourite character toys if those may be harder to get over there, comic subscription, farm animals, set of story books (can get heavy though).

I would send CDs of nursery rhymes/children's songs.

Balloons. Might be cheap and cheerful but my two yr old goes nuts for them.

Hi there, I live overseas so we are always looking for things that people can send our ds and dd. Ds is now 3, over the last couple of years the best things we got were

Anything English language (can't buy it hear) so books, videos, dvds, story tapes

stickers, especially when there is a book to put them in

dress up clothes (may be a little early for this)

clothes with favourite characters on (Postman Pat PJs because no-one here has heard of Postman Pat - combine it with a Postman Pat book...)

Bob the Builder, the diggers (yellow Scoop seems to be the best) only cost 5 pounds from Woollies, but they are really good,

If you have time, buy a photo album and use family photos to tell a family based story, something like:

Granny and Grandpa live in England. Here is their house. They have a cat called Thomas. Sometimes Aunty Jo comes to visit. Can you see them all in the garden? Where is Uncle Bob? Granny has a blue car. Where is the blue car? Aunty Jo likes to play football. Do you like to play football? Who els is playing football in this picture?

This are THE BEST present he can get. If you have any photos of him, include them (Granny lives in Enlgand. X lives in Germany. To get to X house you have to go on a plane. Here is Granny getting in her car to go and get on the plane to see X etc, etc.

Hope that helps

M&S have a set of three Thomas the Tank Engine T shirts at the moment (£14) - good if your nephew lives somewhere that's hot at the moment.
