I guess I should expand a bit.

Looking for arguments for & against.

No no no no no

DD has had one similar to this for about 18 months and loves pushing all the buttons and generating loads of noise (she's now nearly 6).

BUT

the keyboard is all in capitals - but half the stuff on the display is in lower case, and so it didn't make much sense

It doesn't give you much in the way of explanation as to how the various games/tasks work and we lost the book ages ago

There are loads of very similar games and you can't remember which was the good one or which rules belong to which

So it's another bit of plastic which makes too much noise

but it does keep them off your own computer...

The one main plus is that it means the main PC can be reserved for MN

We are getting dd1 one of these or similar for her birthday or christmas ,she wants her own laptop like us,will watch thread with interest .

2pumpkin2pumpkin1 · 08/10/2006 15:13

What age are you going for PFNM?

OP posts:
Beauregard · 08/10/2006 15:16

Well she is nearly 5 so 5 plus .
Knowing dd she will probably moan that she can't get on cbeebies

2pumpkin2pumpkin1 · 08/10/2006 16:53

DTDs are 5 1/2. Was going to get the 4-7 one which we saw @ £25. Realised there was one for 5-8 which will probably be more appropriate as they are in top 1/3 of class but have been put off by the price (£50).

Don't know whether it is worth £50.

Has anyone got any feedback on age suitability?

ooh just found this thread, but i realise it hasn't had a post for nearly a week, i wonder if this will bump it up again.

I just looked at the Vtech ones and they look so basic.

My eldest daughter is 3.5y and she loves going on my computer (mac) and i'm not sure one of those Dora or Diego laptops will cut the biscuit.
Diego
Dora
Both of these laptops have a very poor quality, tiny monitor/screen, i just don't know that it will interest her.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Similarly i'd rather it was a stand alone thing rather than a plug into the telly thing.

Charlie
