From memory I would say that they might be a bit babyish apart from Wallace and Gromit, but it's so child dependent, isn't it. Is he too young for Beano do you think?

waterfalls · 08/10/2006 13:58

ds likes spiderman, alot of 5 yr olds like things like, batman, power rangers etc

SPACEdoutzombieCADET · 08/10/2006 13:59

well when i occassionally get ds(5) a magazine, i usually get disney channel or the power rangers one.

southeastastralplain · 08/10/2006 14:02

mine loves dr who magazine

BATtymumma · 08/10/2006 14:24

ds likes whichever mag has the best toy on the front

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 14:35

Thanks guys

I know nothing about Spiderman, Power Rangers or Batman

Are the comics good?

If I got the wrong one for your DS would he be disappointed?

I know his uncle read Beano years ago so that may be a good option

The problem is that I don't know him very well but he is in hospital with Leukemia and so wanted to send him something to cheer him up.

well my ds loves spiderman, powerangers etc, they tend to just flick through, look at the pictures etc really, my ds is always concerned with which one has the best free gift! i think the beano might be a little old for a five year old, my 12 year old ds read it at around about 7/8

SPACEdoutzombieCADET · 08/10/2006 14:48

about him having leukemia..fwiw, my best friends little girl had it at 3, shes now a happy healthy 10 year ols

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 15:00

Thanks

What makes for a good gift then?

He is having radio and chemotheraphy atm which is making him very tired

Thanks for the encouraging news

Do any 5 year olds like puzzle books etc.?

SPACEdoutzombieCADET · 08/10/2006 15:06

my ds likes those puzzle books with the patterns which you colour in.

southeastastralplain · 08/10/2006 15:07

mine also likes dot to dot and colouring books

TenaLady · 08/10/2006 15:08

My Pony and Beano! (lot of farting in the Beano that normally gets the boys rolling around at that age)

SPACEdoutzombieCADET · 08/10/2006 15:08

when my friends daughter was in hospital having chemo, i used to take in, colouring pads, gel pens, etc, things that would keep her occupied but werent too taxing. i used to get my own children to draw her pictures etc so she could put them on her noticeboard.

KBear · 08/10/2006 15:11

My DS is five and he likes Power Rangers, and ATOM - growing out of Thomas and Bob but would probably read the mags.

WH Smith have annuals on half price at £3.49 - more much to read than a comic that costs nearly £2 - if you're near one!

IlanaK · 08/10/2006 15:23

I think all 5 year old boys are different. Mine does not like spiderman, batman, power rangers or any of the ones mentioned. He likes all things Disney. With magazines, he mostly just likes the toy on front. However, he does love maze books and sticker books. I think activity type books are a good suggestion.

TillyRose · 08/10/2006 15:47

Sticker books, maze books (amazon have loads), dot-to-dot. Things like that if you are not too sure.

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 19:08

Perhaps puzzle books or simular would be a safer bet

You guys are soooooooooo deffo brill

Thank you

Is he in Yr1 or Recpetion? Not all boys enjoy readng at that age. DS1 (5 but in Yr1) enjoys some of the star wars books, but I'd go for dot to dots and activity books everytime.

RTKangaMummy · 08/10/2006 19:25

He has just started school so I suppose that means reception - but he has only been a few days cos he hasn't been well enough

I will go and have a look tomorrow

Thanks for all your help
