Will this be safe (tumble drier in wardrobe)

I have very small house and was warned away from washer dryer so Ive just got a condensor drier that i have planned to keep in my wardrobe as that is the ONLY place I have room for one.

Anyway, its a sensor dry that turns itself off when clothes are dry

Ive just been in the room half way through first load being dried - the drier feels hot, is that normal?

Will it be safe in the wardrobe with sliding doors closed?

Will it be safe to go out in morning with it on as it turns off automatically?

Thanks!

Oh, maybe not for a fridge-freezer, becca...mind you you'd get loads of exercise running up and down stairs!

I do Flip

Started hanging mine outside this week - beautiful weather we've been having here and I do like pegging washing out

Never use my tumble drier during the summer months.

GeorginaA · 15/04/2004 21:59

Flip, I do, but after running it through the dryer cycle for 10mins to help de-crease and only if the weather is nice enough

Flip · 15/04/2004 22:03

I always peg mine out and only use my drier for twenty minutes to air things when I bring them in. Although in summer they get baked that much in the garden I usually squirt them with conditioner and then throw them in the drier when I bring them in. See I'm preserving the environment!

Flip - if they have been on the line, they will already be aired!

I am desperate to be able to hang washing out. Sad i know, but i miss it so much.

Flip · 15/04/2004 22:10

Not really chinchilla. By the time I remember to bring them in - normally when just getting into bed - they are then damp and need twenty mins in the drier.

I dry outside whenever I can but think this drier will be a godsend (if it ever friggin finishes!)

Janh, if you got your dryer from comet, then just phone them about it anyway, tell them all your details and when you bought the machine and they should be able to get all the info they need from their computers. I know they can do this at the stores if you go to the store where u bought the item, but not too sure about on-line purchases.

A close friends dishwasher caught fire during the night last year, house full of smoke at 2am..
Fireman advised any machine left on thro the night should have a smoke detector close by.
You can get conbined Carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, good idea if you have gas or oil CH.

I've got a hotpoint condenser drier in a cupboard under our stairs (it is a large cupboard though). When the engineer came out to fix our washing machine last year he saw our drier and this is what he told me. The drier must always have a gap at the back of it and I must always leave the cupboard door open and also the window to allow an exchange of fresh air. He also said that although most appliances are designed to go under worktops in kitchens, the condenser drier shouldn't as this was possibly one of the worst places because of lack of ventilation. He assured me that mine would be fine if I remembered to clean the filters and empty the water reservoir and pull it out from the wall slightly. I also try to clean the fluff out of the condenser about once every two to three months by running it under the shower. This really seems to improve the dryness of the clothes. Sorry waffly answer and far too late but HTH someone.
