Beware of Paypal

Bit annoyed with Paypal at the moment. We sold something in good faith to somebody on ebay about 2 months ago - value of £102, transaction went through fine, they left positive feedback, all looked to be ok. Since then that buyer has had nothing but really bad feedback, they are no longer registed, looked like they managed to do a massive con and got people to buy lots of things which didnt work or which they didnt receive at all, quite high value items (around £100). We were unaware of this until we checked our paypal account today and it was down £102 and a note to stay that £102 has been taken as chargeback. Looks like the buyer is now claiming that he didnt receive his item, even though he left positive feedback, we have postal confirmation and we sent it to the paypal registered address so we should be covered. It seems that paypal have taken this money off us, we have to claim it back and it can take up to 75 days. Whats hacked me off is that paypal who are a part of ebay havent looked at his extremly dodgy feedback and have just taken our money. It is now up to us to prove that we are innocent and try to claim our money back.

Can you get some publicity about this through Watchdog ir something similar?

TillyRose · 07/10/2006 18:17

But they can still debit your paypal account which in turn is linked tio your credit card. So taking the money out of your paypal account makes no difference.

misdee · 07/10/2006 18:17

can they?

I noticed the other day that they had taken money off my credit card - only £1.19 - didn't invoice me or anything - and should have gone out of bank account - sent fraudulent transaction email to them. So planning to take credit card off paypal account - don't leave money in my paypal account either - so if this happens they don't charge my credit card.

Why didn't they issue a dispute first? They have been fraudulent now - you have the right to report them...etc!

CornflakeKid · 07/10/2006 18:30

to make a claim against you he must have done it within 45 days of payment...they don't seem to want me to remove my credit card...I am selling an item so may have to wait til auction over then will try again! Not sure if can just use paypal with just bank account - mind you not using ebay will do my bank balance more good than bad!!!

CornflakeKid · 07/10/2006 18:41

ha! Have reported card lost with bank so they will issue a new card with different number - if paypal try to use old one will be declined...!! They simply should not be using it - but can use bank account as usual...will wait and see what happens!!!!

DH has been in touch, reading between what little information they have given us looks like as we suspected he was pulling a fast one, and there is nothing we can do, we have given them all the facts and its just a case of paypal looking at all the facts and then deciding what to do.

Its just annoyed me, they could have looked at his feedback and I kid you not he has had about 40 negatives in the last month and not one positive, looked at our feedback which is 100% postive and decided what to do from that. Instead they have penalised us!

I'll certainly no longer leave money in Paypal and hope this is a warning to anybody else that does.
