Shall we pay 10K for a fitted kitchen?

We know nothing about kitchens and have never had one fitted... Moben came round last night and we have been quoted about 10K. It's not a huge kitchen but it is complicated and a move from one room to another. I know we could just buy units and get a local fitter, but I want to have to do absolute minimum organisation (work freelance, need my evenings for work) and I don't know any good ones so it would be hit and miss.

Are Moben OK? Reliable and quality? Hideously expensive and/or is it worth it? One thing we do NOT want is for it all to go wrong and be left waiting around 6 months for parts - horror stories I have heard about IKEA etc.

One the one hand it's a vast sum and I'm horrified - on the other we have the money (left over from previous flat sale), we've saved it for spending on the house and what we're doing will effectively free up a room and give us 3 bedrooms plus a study, so should increase the house value by well above 10K.

Any tips and opinions? Thanks

my husband worked for Moben and well what i know now will save me thousands of a new kitchen. when i was quoted 10k for my kitchen (before dh worked for moben) i just laugh at the rep saying it was impossible for the kitchen to need 10k worth of stuff and funnily enough we got the kitchen for 6k

don't know what your style is but have just gone through this dilemma and we plumped for a habitat kitchen which is solid wood and freestanding. we are really pleased with it and i love the idea that i can move it around or put it in another room if the mood should take me and with it being freestanding there is no fitting required.
if you like freestanding my absolute favourite is the fired earth range firedearthshaker think they start at about 7k
droooooool

Oh I lurve the freestanding ones shrub, I like the Habitat and IKEA ones a lot. But the thought of cleaning behind them - uuurrrggh. The pea-count in our kitchen would be horrendous.

Thanks for all the info guys - I still don't think I can face the risks associated with a local independent fitter unless they came very highly recommended - but I also think we will get several more quotes and perhaps try to bargain Moben down if we do decide to go with them. Have talked to B&Q who were really lovely, and they're coming next week - plus we will go to Ikea for another design.

I agree with the poster who said John Lewis...

Repeat after me - like a mantra - "John Lewis, John Lewis, John Lewis"

Play it safe!

10k is alot of money SL, would you try some more of the bespoke designer people and see if they could come into your budget?
b & q i wouldnt give them 10k, let alone 5k.

i'll join the mantra....

Does anyone know a good kitchen fitter, we have bought a Wickes kitchen and they quoted around 3k so are looking for someone to do the fitting for us. We live in Beckenham in Kent, but it is very close to south London?
