Well, just that really. DD1 needs to be a cook in a Victorian house - aarrggh!! Am useless at sewing, am moving house tomorrow and need it in the next fortnight. Do you think she'd believe me if I tried to pass off a shower cap as a cook's hat . Will be offline for a bit but ALL suggestions very gratefully received. Will check back when I've moved. TIA.

It's obviously that time of year! Dd had to go in Victorian costume today and I hired one for £12 - try a local dance costume shop to see who hires stuff out. The lack of stress at not making it myself.... If you ARE keen and want to CAT me I'll send you the pattern I bought before regaining my sanity and going for a hire option. Where in UK are you? Someone may suggest a local shop.

I had to do this for dd (8) last year. I found a flouncy brown cotton peasanty skirt in a size 6 in Tesco for £4, which trailed along the ground on her and looked v victorian. I also bought a stiff collared white school shirt from tesco in her size for £2, and added a big brooch at the neck, again looked quite victorian.

Finally she had an apron and a chef's hat, but the school provided those from the costume cupboard.

I could send you the skirt if you CAT me your address (and if you think it will work for your dd) - we won't need it for anything else!
