Alcohol-free wines. Has anyone tried them from this site

lono or indeed any other site, that they would recommend? I'm a bit scared of ordering 12 in case they're horrible, but it's cheaper because of delivery charges.

someone recommended them the other day on here, but I can't rmemeber if there was a kind of rider to it..

Marina · 05/10/2006 15:48

Why not just good quality fruit juice/cordials Scarey? Not trying to be funny but why specifically alcohol-free wine? I'd substitute elderflower myself.

Marina · 05/10/2006 15:49

Rider would be in my case that every one I ever tried tasted foul I guess
But that website looks like they know their stuff.

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 05/10/2006 15:49

Because there are times when you just fancy a glass of wine specifically, like with cheese or lasagna or something, and cordial just isn't the same, partnership-wise. You want wine, dammit, but you don't want to drink alcohol. (Like when friends come round on a week night)

don't say i never do anything for you!

By BBWBabeLisa on Tuesday, 3 October, 2006 4:11:50 PMWhen pg with DD I bought a case of de-alcoholised wine from a website that was advertised on the Baby Channel lono.co.uk . Although it didn't taste as much like real wine as I had hoped it might, I took it to parties with me and I still felt the warm fuzzy buzz a couple of glasses of wine give me. Obviously purely psychosomatic but it did the trick for me. My usual tipple is JD & Coke, and I found Lono's whisky substitute really hit the spot when mixed with coke!

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 05/10/2006 15:50

Yes it looks more convincing than any other alcohol-free wine I've ever seen. But I'm sure that other thread said it wasn't quite wine-like. And at those prices, I'd want it to be wine-like, otherwise I'd rather just stick to my fizzy water.

OP posts:
Marina · 05/10/2006 15:51

Well that does sound good. Will be interested to hear your verdict.

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 05/10/2006 15:51

Hmm. Maybe I should stick to the whisky substitute!

I have to say that I'd open real wine every time in such circumstances . But most of my friends are much more accomplished in the liver department than me.

ProfYaffle · 05/10/2006 15:54

Let us know how you get on. As I put on the other thread I had a nasty experience with Eisberg that I'm not keen to repeat, would still like to find a nice alcohol free wine though.

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 05/10/2006 15:54

Marina, so would I! That's why I'd quite like to try these out and see if they're any good.

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 05/10/2006 15:54

why doesn't someone invent a little device that you dip in the wine and render it alcohol free instantly..a sort of modern day Jesus

Marina · 05/10/2006 15:57

God, Eisberg. That name suppressed in my subconscious all those years.

ProfYaffle · 05/10/2006 15:58

Tried it when pg with dd about 3 years ago and I can still taste it, bleugh

zippitippitoes · 05/10/2006 16:00

I tried to buy a vanilla pod smoothy with honey and natural yogurt last night as a treat but couldn't bring myself to get it instead of wine ..

trixymalixy · 06/10/2006 13:01

I just got a case of wine from lo-no.

I haven't tried all of them, but so far the reds haven't been too bad. It's never going to be exactly like a glass of wine, but is quite palatable.

I was getting really sick of soft drinks so it was nice to be able to drink something that has a dry taste like a glasss of wine.

The best non-alcoholic wine I have had so far though was a rose called Fre from sainsburys.

(haven't tried the rose or white ones from lo-no yet though)

SleepIsForTheWeak · 07/10/2006 05:19

tried some white "fake" wine when preggers - yeuch, would rather drink grape juice.

Beck's and Cobra's alcohol free beers are nice.

ProfYaffle · 07/10/2006 07:23

Thanks for the update, I'm waiting for the white report with bated breath!

trixymalixy · 09/10/2006 12:47

OK, tried the Carl Jung alcohol free champagne substitute at the weekend and was really impressed, will definitely be buying some more of that for Xmas.

I can see why the big brother contestants were fooled into thinking it was the real thing.

I also tried the ariel white, which wasn't too bad either, but definitely preferred the fizzy stuff.

They are definitely better the colder they are.

ProfYaffle · 09/10/2006 17:37

Thanks Trixy

Off to warm up my credit card!

ProfYaffle · 11/10/2006 10:39

My order has arrived! I've got champagne, chardonnay and merlot, will let you know what I think.

Gingerbear · 03/12/2006 18:42

aha, found the thread!
Any feedback on the wine, those who tried it?
I need fizz for christmas day and red for parties.

johnr · 06/12/2006 00:05

Hi,

Hope it's ok to post about my own site but it is relevant to the discussion.

I run The Alcohol-Free Shop at www.alcoholfree.co.uk and we have no minimum order so you can order just one bottle to try if you want, although it makes more sense to buy a small selection of different wines because there is a minimum shipping charge.

thanks
John

KrissKringleKokeshi · 06/12/2006 02:33

God, I really do not see the point in that at all. I mean you either want drink or you don't. Pretend wine? Blee.

Although I have to admit I may have a rather alternative approach. I would go for a box, never a glass. Nah, make that a vat.

ps, I don't think you're allowed to advertise your own business johnr, unless you pay. I may be wrong though.

ChristmasCaroligula · 06/12/2006 10:10

I tried the no-lo site and got red wines, they were all OK. A bit like shit red wine, not brilliant, but perfectly drinkable and you did feel like you were drinking wine. Very good for when a couple of my friends came round for lunch with a bottle of red, but I didn't want to drink because it was lunch time. They got drunk and I drank alcohol free - it was OK!
