Toy Kitchen for 20 mo - not wooden please?

Would like to buy my 20 mo (at Xmas) a toy kitchen for Xmas. Was going to buy a shop but have decided she is a bit young yet and she seems to like playing with toy food/kitchens at toddlers etc.

Any recommendations? Most net searches bring up wooden ones but I'd rather buy a sturdy plastic one at this age. Little Tikes do them but wondered if anyone had one/or a different make and could recommend theirs?

Also a lot of the toy kitchens are very 'high' tech and start from 3 yrs + so prob not suitable. DD is a bit 'destructive' so would prefer something most plastic/sturdy for 2+ really (and not too expensive as I can't see it lasting that long....).

Thanks I think the sizzling kitchen is probably better value (look fairly indestructable too!). Need to start ordering these things!

I am getting the elc sizzlin one between my ds who will be 3 and dd who will be 1. It is quite sturdy and can withstand a lot.

and you get £30 worth of accessories free with the elc one at the mo! my mil ordered it, but the box was damaged so she phoned and they sent her another - without having to return the first! (just in case the same should happen to you )

Just got elc one for ds 2nd birthday on friday. He played with it in shop. Looks brill. Seems sturdy enough for ds (and thats saying something .

My friend has the elc sizzlin kitchen and the doors and shelves are really flimsy. They fall off constantly and the whole thing is quite wobbly.

We bought ds a wooden one and it's very solid and sturdy. I've found the higher quality wooden toys to be far better at standing up to a battering from little ones to all the plastic stuff.

Letterbox do this one or this one that are similar to the elc one but far sturdier.

SIL bought DD1 a kitchen for her b'day - not too sure of the make but it says 'mini-TEFAL' on it. It is robust and comes with loads of extras - pots/pans, blender (that blends), toaster (that pops) and plastic food. I know she bought it in Woolworths for about £25. The best thing about it, is that it doesn't take up much floor space (about 40cm square)as some of these things can be huge!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply! I have now ordered the elc sizzling kitchen - so no going back really! Thought it was a bargain esp with the promotion on it.

DD got the ELC one last Chrismas and she was almost exactly that age. It is great. My tip is to construct it on Christmas Eve and then buy a big roll of cheapo wrapping paper and just drape it over the top.

Twohoots · 03/10/2006 15:31

Thanks Bozza - will do. I am getting quite excited already - oh dear a bit sad! But as she will be 20 mths this year it will be much better as she'll have more of an idea (still won't understand but will be able to get excited etc).

Just think that a ready constructed kitchen is more exciting and meaningful than one in pieces in a box - very large box, mind you.
