Any recommendations for a step-type thing to help a toddler reach the basin?

I very stupidly bought one in a cheapo shop and it is really flimsy.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, stable one?

Just bought one today from mothercare - it was about 3.50

Gobbledispook · 01/10/2006 18:47

I've got one from Ikea that is sturdy enough for my just 2 year old. It's a little bit higher than the ones you get in Mothercare too so it's actually better as our sink is quite high.

lexiemum · 01/10/2006 18:47

I got the one from boots - doesn't seem to be a problem

twickersmum · 01/10/2006 19:31

there is a fantastic one on www.mamatoto.co.uk, a white and beech wooden 2 step - really great and very sturdy. it is £23 (even more on blooming marvellous).

let me know what you think, i'm an agent for them and always like feedback on the products

I've got a good one which we no longer use, you can have it if you just pay for the postage and packing.

mustrunmore · 01/10/2006 19:40

We got the £2 Ikea one and its fine. The wooden one they do there is £8 and looks good if you do need it quite high.
The onlt thing I'd say is that I wish ours wasn't so portable, as every time i'm doing anything on the kitchen worktop, I hear 'I'll just get my stool'... then fingers are in everything

lummox · 01/10/2006 19:50

thanks everybody.

mustrunmore - nightmare thought! here's me thinking jolly thoughts about ds being able to wash his hands like a grown up, when in fact he'll be using it to put playdough in the cooking.

twickersmum - i saw that one in bloomingmarvellous, but it seemed a bit expensive to buy without a recommendation. also, because it is two steps i thought it might be less stable, as the child is balancing on something half the size?

sounds like the best thing would be to brave a trip to ikea just as soom as i can remember all the other things i want.

crazydazy - that is a very kind offer, but it looks like p&p may be as much as getting a new one. unless you live in the Croydon area (or Northern France)?

it is quite a big step stool and very sturdy, even standing on the top one - do you want me to measure it?

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 01/10/2006 20:28

I've got an anti-recommendation - one of those wooden ones with four legs which screw on.

They look much nicer than the mothercare plastic one, but boy are they a liability. very unstable and kept upturning.

In the end I gave in and bought the safe, not so nice one.

LIZS · 01/10/2006 20:32

Ikea plastic ones here too - and you can stack them if you need a little extra height.

hoxtonchick · 01/10/2006 20:40

we've got the ikea white one with round grey blobs. 15 month old dd very proficient at climbing onto it. luckily she can't turn the tap on. yet...

crazydazy · 01/10/2006 20:54

No sorry in Leeds,oh well never mind then

julienetmum · 01/10/2006 22:18

We use a caravan step from the local caravan shop. It is very stable as it is designed for adults to step on too.

I have no idea of the price, my parents bought it.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 01/10/2006 22:20

John Lewis has some cheap-ish ones.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 01/10/2006 22:22

And so do Betterware . I think we got ours for about £3 from somewhere like Homebase - maybe have a look in some DIY places?

bea · 01/10/2006 22:39

hello lummox...

we've got this

one...

very very sturdy and the perfect height for our wash basin...

though not very good for ducks!!!!!

lummox · 02/10/2006 11:15

hello again bea! that's the posh looking one that i saw in the blooming marvellous catalogue. i was worried that the top step would be a bit narrow?

thanks very much for the other ideas - betterware one looks nice, as does john lewis, but think i am down to deciding between the posh one and ikea!
