She is not fat but cannot wear the stupid skimpy-waisted, long-legged "fashionable" school trousers currently available. We have tried boys' trousers but theseare no goodas her hipsare starting to round out (she is 10). I so much don't want her to get a complexabout hershape - she is beautiful - but where can we find hersome trousers (grey or black, natural fibres preferred but will consider anything...)

I think M and S girls' trousers are usually pretty good- not particularly trendy and last well.

TooTicky · 29/09/2006 23:15

M&S let us down - they have gone trendy and silly

m and s do have some trendier trousers, but got some for dd1 ( 5) from there - has a waistband that you can adjust with stretchy elastic on the inside, and a small zip pokcet on left hip. no hearts or glittery bits!

TooTicky this shop is in West MOors in east dorset, probably too far for you.But maybe try a proper school shop as there styles tend to be more forgiving.
fwiw my dd was the same at that age I think it's common for prepubescent girls to find it difficult to find trousers to fit as at that age they don't make them to fit their hips as most 10 yr olds haven't got any yet.It does get easier as they get older.

Do you have a National Schoolwear Centre near you???

If not, you can order online.

They have a few girls trousers.

Just got some for both my girls.

Do have to turn the bottoms up though.

Also if you have Tesco that sells clothes, i'm sure they do trousers with adjustable waistbands.

Next sell adjustable ones as well.

I have this problem with my dd1 (9) too - everything is too tight over her thighs and hips, she has started to say things like

"I know I'm not fat or anything, but I think the worst part of my body is my thighs"

All because clothes aren't made to fit her changing shape [anger]

TooTicky · 30/09/2006 17:04

Perhapsweshould start a campaign - Clothes for Real Children or something.

I would definitely try M&S again they have quite a few different styles & its the only place I found trousers to fit my 10 year old dH comofartably - sounds as if she's a similar shape to your daughter The ones I got for her are grey but I think they also do them in blue - product code 6084 295 (bold) & T75 08556/1222. Not particularly trendy but they are bootleg & look better on than off

Rian · 01/10/2006 13:51

sorry - didnt have my glasses on! code is T76 08556/1222.

Thanks Rian That's really helpful! I can well believe we overlooked something on the stressed and crowded day we were in the shop.
